Guest guest
OM NAMAH SIVAYA please don't take offense to any of this, it's only my 2 cents. i think the "privilege" you speak of is another word for economics. and most don't even realize the advantages they have. there is a poor tax in the US that many of us don't even know about. for example many people in the inner cities must use currency exchanges because they don't have bank accounts. they must pay cash for everything because they have no credit or pay loan shark interest rates for financing. car loans and even mortgages cost the poor more because they are considered higher risks. poor kids go to schools that have 30 students in a class yet maybe only 10 to 12 show up on any given day. kids are in schools where they don't have enough textbooks for everyone. and children do well in their high school only to go to college to find out how far behind they really are. the list goes on and on. and as for the racial slur thing how you spelled out some words and **** others is an example of the ingrained power of some words over others. words gain power over time, the more they're used, and through the intention of their use. that's why Amma stresses japa so much. millions have used these mantras for thousands of years with the intention of realizing God. i think it is important to try to walk in the other persons shoes to have the proper perspective. not just try to relate from our own. since we can't experience it all the same way, our only chance to all come together is through the common bonds, Love and compassion. Banks give out loans and credit cards based on income (W-2 and otherwise) and credit score. Period. They could care less what color you are. The education low income inner city people need is on how our system works..how to improve your credit, how to open a bank account, how to partner with others to start a business, how to get a mortgage, etc. This is not racism, but figuring out how to make good decisions and get ahead. The black church I am involved with does just this: gives people a financial education. The finger pointing politics and blame the white rascists type of rhetoric only serves the leaders who are making alot of money pandering to people's baser instincts. It is definitely true that it is tough for low income people in the city. And cities seem to punish folks with incessant parking tickets and the like. Credit card companies and banks make huge amounts of money off of late fees. This is corrected through education and knowing your rights. Also living with shradda. Any of us who have to get by with little know these struggles, but it is NOT racism. The mess of inner city public schools has more to do with below par standards being accepted by highly political teacher's unions, and a school culture that does not foster self control or achievement. Also with the crazy atmosphere that inner city kids grow up in: drugs and sexual activity beginning before puberty and a culture that worships phoney music idols and violence and horror. This is the Hollywood MTV anything goes culture. How can a young impressionable kid work his way through this maze of bad influences?
