I don't know much about Bono, but the few U2 tunes I've heard, I really like, and much of their music takes on social issues. Bono himself is using his fame right now to advocate for global issue. I think that in the most recent tv interview I saw with him, he talked about global warming. When he is not performing, he appears very unassuming, and even though he is using his fame as an opportunity to be an advocate, he seems uncomfortable if the interviewer makes too much of it. This is sort of what I meant by needing the ego and not needing the ego, the healthy ego, etc. When U2 performs (I have seen clips) Bono, as the lead singer, is right out there, using every ounce of himself at all levels, including the ego, to bring the music out. To me, this is a healthy way. Then when he is interviewed, he seems almost embarrased by his fame ... this says to me that he understand when it is time to go beyond the ego. I guess this is a little like "Racing Along the Razor's Edge," as the new book in the Amma bookstore says in the title.
