Dear Temba ~ I am concerned a bit that you are reading too much into what some people are innocently saying. If I say, for example, about my Tarot and other workshops, that "I" got as much out of it as "my" students, for me, this is a statement of wonder and gratitude, and the use of the word, "I," is for convenience. I never did, nor would I, if I started doing them again, think to myself, "oh, I will do as many as I can so I can get the more out of it than I get." This would put me in the position of a cat chasing its own tail. We must have some way to refer to ourselves when we talk about our experiences. Otherwise, who is writing this email? Who wrote the email "I" am responding to ... and ultimately, this would seem to turn into a circle that would cause a person to possibly question, "why am 'I' participating in this digest at all?" We come here because this is a satsang in cyberspace. For some of us, it is the only satsang available to us. I am very aware that Amma has said we must get rid of "I" and "mine," but I'm not sure She was referring to conversations, which is what the digest is ... it is conversations between "me" and "you," or between "me" and the group, or between some other "me" and another person or the group. Of course, we could all use a term such as "this child" when we are talking about ourselves or our experiences to get around the problem of seeming to sound egotistical, but if we are doing it just to get away from using the terms "I" and "mine," we really have not changed anything, and it is just subterfuge. When "I" read an email from anyone in the group, "I" don't make anything out of their use of the word, "I," when referring to their experience. "I" realize it is a convenience and that it is not up to me to try to figure out or judge the use of the word, "I" by another person. And it is really additionally tiresome, literally, in terms of my health, to remember to keep using quotation marks around the word, "I." So I pray we all remember that, in sharing our experiences, that we are each unique and in the sharing, others are enriched, and that we not become overly worried about the use of personal pronouns.
