Guest guest
Listen to Your Mother November / December 2005 /By Amma Chi, Global Peace Initiative of Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders/ "The essence of motherhood is not restricted to women who have given birth; it is a principle inherent in both women and men. It is an attitude of the mind. It is love -- and that love is the very breath of life. No one would say, 'I will breathe only when I am with my family and friends; I won't breathe in front of my enemies.' Similarly, for those in whom motherhood has awakened, love and compassion for everyone are as much part of their being as breathing." -- Amma Chi, also known as Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, is a spiritual leader and humanitarian who travels the world offering hugs to millions of spiritual seekers. This quote is from a speech given at the Global Peace Initiative of Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders, October 7, 2002. Our lives are like the swinging of a clock's pendulum. The pendulum, never remaining still, constantly swings back and forth from side to side. Similarly, our lives constantly swing back and forth from pain to pleasure and back to pain again. We need to bring the pendulum of our lives to a standstill, a point of equilibrium. For this, we need peace of mind. And to gain peace of mind, we need to do meditation and other sadhana. --Mata Amritanandamayi
