Guest guest
In order to have some order and fairness, each person wanting to get a hug from Amma is given a numbered token. Amma herself tells us how many tokens to distribute before the program. She has been adamant that new people get priority. When the tokens she has authorized run out, it there are still many people waiting on line, Bhavani will go up to her as she is hugging people and will ask permission to distribute more. All along, those who have had darshan once are told to come back later. Now the token folks have a new-fangled thing called an exchange token. If a person has not had a hug at all ever or has not had one this tour, they are given and exchange token with a letter on it. When nearly all people with numbered tokens have had a hug, announcement is made for folks with exchange token A or B or green exchange tokens, or whatever, to return to the token booth. Then they are given a real token and, when its number range is displayed, they can get on line to get their hug. This seems awkward. One benefit of the exchange token system is that those who have come for Amma's hug must wait, must stay near her, for some time. The greatness of Amma is not immediately evident. She is a small simple humble person who does not pretend anything. We Westerners rush around so much that we are hardly present, hardly able to understand our experience as we rush through it. I have known many people who were able to come to Amma and quickly get darshan. In fact, I used to help bring groups to Amma and arranged it so that they did not have to stay for hours on end. In general these people do not come back on their own. To know and understand Amma's greatness, it seems that a person must stay for some time, as close as possible, see and feel her unconditional love expressed in what Jane Goodall called "her wonderful hugging." One must stay near her for a time and breathe in the possibility of such unconditional love into one's own heart. Thus this exchange token system enables people to be touched, moved and transformed by Amma's life rather than dashing in an out with no impact on t
Guest guest
Dear Aikya and all, One of the token people told me that Mother has them give out a certain number of tokens a day, (can't remember how many) then 700 more people are later given tokens- people with exchange tokens.. It does make sense that Mother wants us to be in Her presence as much as possible. Like the story of being in the perfume factory and picking up the scent even though the person touches nothing. It is amazing how being in Her presence can calm us down, open our hearts. Even looking at the hills surrounding the Ashram, She seems to be so present there. Guest guest
Amma tells the token folks how many tokens to distribute before the program starts. It is always more than 700. She will say to give out 1300 or 2000. Then, if there is still a big line after all those are distributed, they will ask her permission to give out more. In previous years, "more" meant more numbered tokens. The exchange token is relatively new. It's purpose is both to ensure that new people and those who have not had darshan yet will get it and also (my opinion only on this) to encourage people to stay in her presence.
