Guest guest
I'm looking for a title of a book about Krishna published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. This particular book emphasizes the human skills and talents of Lord Krishna as a ruler, politician, soldier, and so on rather than his oft praised divine qualities. One of the guys in prison has developed a hunger to immerse himself in stories about Krishna. He reminds me that Amma said she and Krishna were one. He has a terrible time with English spelling but in one letter recently he quoted -- in Sanskrit, mind you, diacritical marks and all--the last verse of Lord Krishna's teaching: Sarvadharmaan parityaja maamekam sharanam vraja aham tvaa sarvapaapebhyah mokshayishyaami maa suchah with the translation "Giving up all spiritual practices, take refuge in me alone. I will free you from all sin; do not worry." He left out a few words but I was impressed. I sent him his own Bhagavad Gita. Now he wants to read more about Krishna and the only thing the prison has is International Society of Krishna Consciousness literature. All suggestions happily noted. Guest guest
This is an outstanding book. I highly recommend it - it is voluminous and has entertaining stories, philisophical discussions... something to fit everyone's taste. And the author is not the least fanatical as many vaishnavites are. -yogaman Ammachi, "Rufus Juskus" <rufmanj@v...> wrote: > > Could this be it? > > http://bhavans.info/store/bookdetail.asp? bid=220&bauth=A.+S.+P.+Ayyar > > Hope this helps. > > Jai Ma! > > -Achyut > > > Ammachi, "Aikya Param" <aikya> wrote: > > > > I'm looking for a title of a book about Krishna published by > > Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. At 225 rupees (less than five bucks U.S.), it's dirt-cheap! But it looks like you have to live in India to buy books online from this site. Guest guest
I would suggest the supreme Krishna book- the Srimad Bhagavatam. A good translation is available, I think via the Sri Ramakrishna mutt . ( or the chinmaya mission). bala Aikya Param <aikya wrote: I'm looking for a title of a book about Krishna published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Guest guest
or the Srimad Bhagavatam by Kamala Subramaniam (published by the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan). I have a copy of this book (it's a mini-tome actually); it is delightfully devotional yet has frequent pockets of deep erudition and profound thought. Guest guest
Namaste, Amma also recommends the Srimad Bhagavatam. It can be purchased from Sri Ramakrishna Math online : http://www.vedanta.com/showbook.cfm?booknum=10000208 Srimad Bhagavatam: The Wisdom of God translated by Swami Prabhavananda The Srimad Bhagavatam is one of the most popular scriptures in India, and one of the most important, next to the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. This version focusses primarily on the teachings of Krishna, and the generally more interesting portions of the book. The translation's aim is to be true to the spirit of the original Sanskrit and be easily readable. 329 pages, paperback $5.95 ISBN 0-87481-490-1 Om Amriteswaryai Namaha, amarnath Ammachi, balakrishnan Shankar <balakrishnan_sh> wrote: > > I would suggest the supreme Krishna book- the Srimad Bhagavatam. Guest guest
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has distribution here in the US -- headquartered in New York City area, although "dirt cheap" might not be the prevailing US price. Guest guest
Thanks, Amalia, for the name of the book about Krishna which Sudha enjoyed. Thanks, also, to Bala, Manoj and Amarnath who want to make sure that I don't ovrelook the classic Srimad Bhagavatam which I have in it's entirety in Sanskrit at home. I'm sure that I will enjoy getting my young new Krishna devotee some delicious books to fuel his devotion. Aikya Ammachi, "Aikya Param" <aikya> wrote: > > Thanks to Achyut and Yogaman.
