I thought I'd share an experience I had with trying to get rid of an allergic

reaction I was having where my mouth was swelling up every other week or so.

This could be dangerous if it affects breathing as well as just making you look

stupid! Well I started taking allergy medicine as recommended by my doctor which

lessened the problem but it didn't eliminate it and the medicine made me very

sleepy. So I looked into ayurveda a little and found that the spices in curry

powder are also considered healing herbs which are said to boost your immune

system among other benefits. So I started making sure I consumed at least a

teaspoon of curry powder or up to a tablespoon just about every day and my

allergy has not returned. I like curry spices so it's not a problem for me but

if I didn't I'd probably take it by filling gelcaps from a health food store.

Well this is not exactly a scientific study and I'm not saying this will cure

anyone of anything but it might improve your immune system and

help at least a little. And I doubt it could hurt in any way. There are also

lots of different ayurvedic formulas recommended for different conditions but

they can be more expensive so when I noticed that often half of the ingredients

were common curry spices I decided to try that!

Also years ago I had just a one-day panchakarma treatment more or less as a

preventive health aid and I found it very relaxing. Theoretically they take into

account your health problems so that they don't recommend anything too extreme;

I'm pretty sure they would never tell you to stop any allopathic treatments -

that would be up to you - but if the Western medicine isn't working very well

anyway it could be that alternative methods will at least give you some relief,

perhaps allowing you to cut back on some of the Western drugs with their side

effects.

Dear Faintglow ~ I was very interested to read of your experience with the

Icelander fellow during your stay at Amritapuri. Are you still there now? I do

think you were a bit hard on yourself about the mattress situation. You did

offer, and your intention was to give him the bed, and he didn't take you up

on it. I think that maybe your karma meter went up a couple of notches, not

down. But, of course, that is not for me to judge. I was very interested to

read about the panchakarma clinic. I have actually given thought to coming to

Amritapuri, not only to see Amma, but to see if their hospital can help my

illnesses. No one here seems to know what to do with me except medicate me into

oblivion. I am still awed by this world of blogs and still as clueless as

ever, but I will enjoy going back and reading some more about your experiences

at Amritapuri. Blessings ~ Linda
