Amritapuri, not only to see Amma, but to see if their hospital can help my

illnesses. No one here seems to know what to do with me except medicate me into

oblivion. I am still awed by this world of blogs and still as clueless as

ever, but I will enjoy going back and reading some more about your experiences

No longer there. The whole story in the blog is from my first visit to

Amritapuri which took place some years ago.

Well, in my reckoning, karma computations have more to do with intentions than

actual expressions. Hidden motivations must also be taken into account. In this

case, as I explained, I went through the motions but my heart was not in it. Of

course, I am not making a big deal out of earning a few negative points; I am

probably blowing up a Hiroshima everyday in karmic terms so, by comparison,

this was probably no more evil than swatting a fly. Also, I must add the caveat

that I have no PhD or even Bachelor's degree in karmanometrics, if I may coin a

term for a dubious new discipline.

I don't know a whole lot about the pros and cons of panchakarma. Perhaps some

ayurveda buff or naturopath on this group will be able to help you with advice

pertinent to your situation. I would imagine that there is not much downside but

I don't know how effective this kind of therapy will be against chronic ailments

that are usually addressed by a battery of allopathic drugs.

You can find more info about the clinic in Amritapuri by following the link in

my blog (the word panchakarma was hotlinked). Also, there are dozens, perhaps

hundreds of such establishments in Kerala and India, so you may also want to do

more research before you sign up at any particular place. Of course, at

Amritapuri you will be able to kill two birds with one stone - you pay for one

enema (the physical one) and Amma will give you the other one (spiritual) for

free. A tasteless joke, I concede, but pls don't be offended. All I mean is that

a stay in the ashram could result in your karmic clock getting cleaned by Amma.

But don't count on it. It might be all fun and games.

I would certainly caution against dumping all allopathic medication and leaping

headlong into the nature cure system. I know of a relative right now, who is on

a sinking ship, with some undiagnosed, possibly liver, ailment. He has sworn by

nature cure for much of his life, and it has kept him in good trim upto his

present age of 75, but things are now taking a turn for the worse. He will not

consent to so much as a blood test, so it is not even possible to know exactly

what is going on. I know it is unlikely that people from the West would be that

radical in their pursuit of nature cure but still, just a caution.
