Prayer, chanting, missing the ashram

I surely believe that prayer can be effective/helpful and that it's always a

good thing, but I

often feel funny about definitively attributing some material result to the fact

that a prayer

was said (except in situations when it's been clearly shown to me that this is

the case).

Maybe it's my training in statistics and research methods, but a little voice in

my head

whispers "correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation." Maybe the prayer

caused the

result, maybe something else did....but, I suppose, in the end...it's all Her

grace,

anyway...and whatever we can do to open ourselves to that grace can only help

us!

So, here I am attempting to finish my dissertation proposal for Monday (so that

I don't

miss my internship match deadlines!)....I was feeling so tired and drained from

working so

unbelievably hard on so little sleep for the past few days that I felt I

couldn't even look at

the articles I need to read....so I decided that maybe chanting

Mahisasuramardini stotram

would give me some energy...so I did. I don't regularly chant that at home, and

suddenly,

I found myself just PINING for the ashram! One of my favorite things about being

there, for

sure, was chanting LS and Mahisasuramardini stotram in the Kali temple in the

early AM.

Before I left the ashram, everyone was telling me, with these smiles and knowing

looks,

that I'd be back. I wondered, "Do they all know something I don't?" I think

maybe that's

the case. I have no idea when, or how, but I feel certain that I will have to

return there...

Dear Iswari,

I can completely understand what you are saying re: saying prayers

and seeing a benefit. I don't think that one will necessarily cause

the other, but I do believe that sending out the right vibrations

and being open to the changes REALLY effects the outcomes of

situations.

Hanuman Chaleesa probably didn't exactly cause hubby to get the job:

I saw the job online months ago. However, the fact that he pursued

it and was "with it" enough to nail the interview...well, you

know. ;)
