Dear Prasadini ~ as I have been reading this thread about the Das's, and then seeing Shree Maa getting thrown into the pot, I have wondered why we cannot honor each for what (s)he has contributed, as you have done in your post. And when I read the above, like a crack of lightening, though Amma speaks of the "guru," I don't think she has ever said right out that she is one or even that she has special powers, although we all know she does. She usually "ducks and covers" when someone tries to get her to make an outright statement, often saying, "oh this crazy girl." The Das's have their place in our spiritual growth, if we cross their path as you did in the bookstore, just as every single person is a part of our spiritual growth if we only realize it. (I know you do, Prasadini). As far as I know, none of them own rolls royces or have tried to lure young women into their circles for spurious purposes. Ram Das shares his own experience, and teaches some people who are open to his approach. Krishna Das sings and shares the burning fervor of kirtan, of singing to God/dess with others, and so contributes. I don't know about Bhagavan Das, so I can't say anything. But in my experience, the "false gurus" were the ones that tried to get money from their followers, that drove rolls royces, and that used their seeming stature to lure young women into their beds. I find it very difficult to understand how this thread has gone on for so long :::scratching head::: or why I keep feeling a need to respond, even though I keep telling myself I won't. Whatever (books, films) or Whomever leads us to understand more about who we really are and perhaps even points the way to finding our true Guru, is at least deserving of respect. If some of you are not old enough to get the "Get there later" in the subject line, that was a bit that Robin Williams used early in his acting career when he played the alien in "Mork and Mindy."
