Dear Tom ~ everyone is, of course, entitled to his or her opinion, however when speaking of people generally regarded as holy in some regard, if the opinion is negative perhaps it is better to keep it to ourselves. The Guru Gita enjoins us against gossiping about "the guru." I believe we must all use our discrimination to determine who, for each individual person, is the "right" guru. I think of Krishna Das as very holy. I don't think of him as a guru, but if I ever get the chance to be in his presence and hear him sing again, I will zip like a little bee to a flower. Krishna Das, followed Ram Das for some time before going to India and spending a bit over a decade with Nee Karoli Baba. At some point, Krishna Das, who wondered if he should become a renunciate, asked Baba what he should do. Baba's answer: go to America, and do what you love (sing). And that is Krishna Das's seva. Ram Das's seva seems to be talking, telling stories, sharing his own personal experience. But it has all been clear to me that Baba was/is the Guru. Also, how does one distinguish a true aspirant from a regular spiritual person? These distinctions are too fine for me to judge.
