The first time I saw him in NYC I thought he looked like Lord Shiva! (but without the snakes around his neck!) Got one of his CDs ("Now") enjoy it very much. I don't know much, or care much, about Ram Dass, other than that he almost died of a stroke a few years back..I was only a grade-schooler in the late 1960s so I missed out on all that trippy LSD stuff! No snakes, but the first time I saw him, he actually had a vial of water in his hair that was dripping down (as Shiva is depicted with the Ganges flowing out of his hair). Obviously he was trying to look like Lord Shiva.
