Dear temba and All, Now that is a truly scary thought, though I agree with it ~ yes we are one with George, and he is our brother, and surely Amma would hug him just as warmly. I'm not sure I can go so far as to compare what he is doing with Arjuna's dilemma in the Bhagavad Gita. After all, Arjuna was agonizing over the prospect of killing, and had to be persuaded by Krishna that this, at that moment, was his dharma. (And, as you mentioned, to an extent this story was symbolic of the battlefield of Life, just as the Chandi is, with its horrific and gruesomely described battle, to some extent symbolic of our turning to the Goddess for help in overcoming negative thoughts.) I am not sure George agonized about all the killing that would and has resulted as an outcome of the invasion of Afganistan and Iraq. My feeling, and it is not mine alone, was that he was just waiting for an excuse, and 9/11 gave it to him. Also, it is still troubling that a leader, any leader, or a group, any group, would use the word of God as a justification for killing. Believe me, in most, if not all cases, these people, be they leaders or groups, are not thinking about Arjuna's dilemma. And now over 3 times more Iraqis have died than those who were killed in the Trade Center attack (and please know I am not in any way minimizing that), not to mention thousands of Americans. On the other hand, I do recall Amma expressing sorrow for the terrorist attack in Bagdhad that occurred on a bridge and resulted in many deaths. At one point, I added to the prayer list the following: For all the leaders in the world at all levels that their hearts be opened to God's Love, Compassion & Guidance. Perhaps we could just consider George to be part of this group, which, of course, he is, and not single him out. What do you folks in the group think?
