Guest guest
Dear brothers and sisters in Amma, I wanted to share a bit more about Navaratri with you. I'm not sure where I originally got this, but it was probably About.com. Here it is: Nava Durga: The Nine Appellations (Nine Forms of the Mother Goddess) Nava ~ that also means "new" ~ denotes "nine," the number to which the sages attach special significance. Hence, we have Nava - ratri (9 nights)...and Nava - Durga (9 appellations). Here are the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga, Each goddess has a different form and a special significance. Nava Durga, if worshipped with religious fervor, it is believed (will) lift the divine (sic) spirit within us and fill us with renewed happiness. SKONDAMATA She is the Goddess of Fire. She has four arms and three eyes. She rides a lion. KUSUMANDA Seated on a lion, she has a magnanimous presence, and possesses eight arms. Her abode is the Solar region. SHAILAPUTRI The embodiment of the power of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, she rides a bull and carries a trident and a lotus in her two hands. KAALRATRI This four-armed form rides an ass. She dissipates darkness from amidst her devotees adn bestows freedom from fear and adversity. BRAHMACHARINI She is the one who practices devout austirity. Filled with bliss and happiness, she is on the way to emancipation ~ Moksha. MAHA GAURI She is like an eight-year-old girl. She is intelligent and peaceful, possesses three eyes and four arms and uses the bull as her vehicle. KATYAYANI The chosen goddess of Vrindavan, she is alluring in her golden form. She has four arms and three eyes; she is seated on a lion. CHADRAGHANTA She is the epitome of bravery; she rides a lion, and she has ten arms. She drives away all evil doers and demoniac incarnation. SIDDHIDATRI The bestower of accomplishments, this manifestation is worshipped as one blessed with glory. Seated on a lotus, she has four arms. Guest guest
here is soemthing cool about the # nine.if you add up all the numbers in AMMAS birthday,it comes to a nine.also check this out.if you multiply nine times 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and then add the numbers .it comes to nine .for example.9 times 2 =18 ,8+1=9 9 times 3=27 2+7=9 no matter what number you multiply nine by ,it comes back to itself.like a circle,it is infinite.it has no starting point.also note that a circle is 360 degrees which is really a nine.3+6+0=nine.cool huh. om namah shivaya. >nierika >Ammachi >Ammachi > Re: More on Navaratri ~ 9 Forms of Durga >Tue, 4 Oct 2005 10:43:08 EDT > >Dear brothers and sisters in Amma, > >I wanted to share a bit more about Navaratri with you.
