in the absence of other posts, i thought why not share some words

from Amma.

"In olden days everyone practised truth. The wife lived for the

husband and the husband for the wife. They had the fruit of truth

and self-sacrifice. They had an all-surrendering attitude, courage,

love, righteousness, and justice. " - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.

1 p346 (1008)

"People judge things according to their mental dispositions and

tendencies which are limited. Due to this limitation their judgments

are wrong most of the time and they miss the essence of things." -

Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p3 (0001)

"A plant in which an ayurvedic physician sees great medicinal value

is nothing but grass for a person who harvests food for cows.

Likewise, people differ according to their individual samskaras. It

is through the glasses of their vasanas that each one views and

judges the world. The color of the glasses differs according to a

person's tendencies, but in all people identification with these

vasanas is so strong that they feel that their judgments, and their

judgments alone, are correct." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p3

(0002)

"This is a strong vasana in many people, to think that they are doing

the 'right thing' when really all they want to do is satisfy their

usual desires." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p6 (0011)

"A real human being is one who is endowed with self-control and

mental strength. But who is without any weakness? Even a dictator,

who may seem like a strong-minded person, is a weakling because he

rules, tortures and kills people out of fear for his own security.

Fear is the greatest weakness." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4,

p5 (0008)

God: Children, God-Realization and Self-Realization are the same.

The ability to love all, broadmindedness and equanimity, this is God-

Realization. - Ammachi, For My Children, p35 (0480)

[Mother is explaining to a brahmacharin why we feel hurt when we are

scolded by anyone.] "Just what do you think of yourself? Do you

think that you are a perfect soul? No, you are not. You are just a

limited ego. You can attain perfection, but for that to happen, you

need guidance. You need to be corrected. You need to be

disciplined. That is what a disciple must undergo. If you do not

allow somebody, and this `somebody' means a Guru, to work on you,

then it is difficult for you to be transformed." - Ammachi, Awaken

Children, Vol.4 p208 (0195)

"Once you accept a Perfect Soul as your Guru, stop wandering, both

mentally and physically. Stay with the Guru; surrender to Him or

Her. That is it. Cast off all worries and unnecessary brooding over

incidents and experiences of the past, and mentally and physically

travel towards Him, toward His real Being. This is the real

journey." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p7 (0013)

"The 'I' ceases to exist when the mind attains perfect

concentration. The feelings of 'I' and 'mine' are due to the ego.

The ego is nothing but identification with the body and mind. The

mind is thoughts. When thoughts are present we remain a little ego.

There is no spontaneous expression. Everything is filtered through

the ego." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p10 (0020)

There are many people around us who are struggling without a house,

clothes, food and medical care. With the money you spend on smoking

for one year, a small house could be built for a poor man. When we

become compassionate toward the poor, our selfishness will disappear.

We do not renounce anything but derive satisfaction from others'

happiness. When we lose selfishness we become fit for God's Grace. -

Ammachi, For My Children, p152 (0731)

[A devotee asks Mother how love for God culminates in

Oneness.] "Son, as the mind becomes more and more one-pointed

through spiritual practices, thought waves gradually decrease. And

the mind, along with the thoughts, disappears and dissolves into the

total mind. Our mind is nothing but a part of the universal mind,

the cosmic mind. Thoughts are like a wall which stands between our

own minds and the one cosmic mind. It is like two rooms separated by

a wall. Demolish and remove the wall, and the rooms become one." -

Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4 p184 (0170)

"Others should be loved without any desire or expectation." -

Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol. 1 p142 (0835)

"The mind full of thoughts is ignorance; the same mind devoid of

thoughts is Atman, the Self. People are so identified with the body

that they miss the Reality, the Essential Principle. They see the

waves and forget about the ocean. They see the clouds and miss the

vast expansive sky." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p4 (0003)

"The waves come and go, appear and disappear, but the ocean remains

the same. The same can be said about the clouds in the sky and the

flower on the plant. People miss the Reality, the Substratum, which

is the Enlivening Principle, and this is a big loss. To forget It is

the biggest loss." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p4 (0004)

~~~~~~~~~~~~ how to deal with anger ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
0038."Anger is like an infected wound. When somebody touches it, you
feel the pain. And if the touch is hard, pus and blood will come
out, creating more pain. Yes, anger is a deep, infected wound. It
is a disease and needs to be treated. It needs your compassion and
loving attention. Therefore, when someone gets angry, remember that
he is a sick person. Do not make him more sick; do not let more pus
and blood flow out of his wound. Do not make him experience more
pain by pressing and squeezing harder and harder. This means we
should not return anger." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p22
0039."What an angry person needs in condolence. Take pity on him and
soothe his wound of anger. Children, once again, Mother wants to
remind you that this is an opportunity." - Ammachi, Awaken Children,
Vol,4, p22
0036."Someone may disagree with you and another may argue with you.
Don't react; try to be calm. Your calmness will disarm the other
person. If you have any complaints, come tell Mother about it, but
do not get angry; do not speak roughly or use harsh words." -
Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p21
0037."If anger arises in you, do not express it immediately. Leave
the place. Go and sit somewhere by yourself. Contemplate and
meditate. You will find that the cause of your anger is not in the
other person but within you. It is not the other person that causes
it, but your past. The past is your reference book. Anger is within
you. Someone accidentally touches the anger in you, and you
erupt." - Ammachi, Awaken Children, Vol.4, p21
