Guest guest
Namah Shivaya dear sisters and brothers in Amma, Well, the front page headline on today's newspaper here in Austin reads "RELIEF AFTER RUIN." I think that sums up how many of us in the area are feeling now. Hurricane Rita was destructive, to be sure, but we feel very thankful for what this hurricane was not. A few days ago the weather forecasters told us there was no doubt that Rita would only strengthen as it passed over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico; it seemed destined to make landfall as a Category 5 hurricane. It also seemed to be headed straight for Galveston and then Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S. Just outside of Houston is one the country's largest and oldest nuclear power plants. In Galveston, there is a University of Texas medical lab where the deadliest viruses in the world are stored. And...the Texas coast is lined with oil refineries and chemical plants, all of which store hundreds of lethal chemicals and gases that could have traveled hundreds of miles if they had escaped from storage. Without a doubt, it made an enormous difference that Hurricane Rita made landfall not as a Category 5 hurricane, but as a Category 3 hurricane. So here is what I really want to say to you all: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all of your prayers. >From the heart of my heart, thank you for your selfless service in the form of your prayers. Those prayers summoned much Divine Grace, and have truly lessened the suffering. In humble gratitude to you all, Amala
