Malas and jewelry question

Om Namah Shivayah,

I remember reading somewhere that when a mala or Amma jewelry falls off it has

some

significance.

Today I was talking about my mother (who has left her body) and the bracelet of

Amma's that

I wear everyday seemed to explode on my arm, sending beads everywhere. I was

very upset

that it broke, but I am wondering if anyone can elaborate on the significance of

these types

of things since I rememeber reading about it before.

Thank you for any input!

Dear Ananthasree,

I have heard that once a mala breaks or is lost that it means that some

karma has been filled/taken and the mala should

be replaced. I have also heard that it is simply broken and should be

repaired. I had a mala that was strung on thin wire and

I slept in it. It broke all the time, and I was constantly having it

repaired. I finally had it rewired and stopped sleeping with it

on, and it hasn't broken since.

If you are talking about a mala that was Mother's that you paid

megabucks for, I would definitely have it fixed. I have one that

I've had for a couple of years and I wear it a lot. I am thinking that I

should restring it, as elastic tends to wear out. This stuff

is supposed to be very durable, but as you can see with clothes with

elastic in them, it wears out.

A woman at the MA bookstore told me that she had hers restrung. I

restrung my husband's mala. These things just happen.

But don't take my word for any of this.

My understanding is that if a mala breaks, some karma has been burned,

which is a good thing Having the mala restrung/rewired is sufficient.

I actually make malas and repair wire wrapped malas in a traditional way

if anyone is interested.

Blessings!

My dog chewed on my Rudraksha mala and ate a couple of the beads. What does

that signify?

"The dog ate my mala" is almost as lame as "the dog

ate my homework"! Did you ever use that excuse as a

grade schooler (I didn't, as I never owned a dog)

A Rudraksha eating dog will become instantly realized. You'd better listen

to him when he aske for cookies. You'd better listen to him when he asks

you ANYTHING!

Dear Rick,

I think it means you have some "dog-goned" karma!

Rick-

is this the same dog who waited in the trailer in Chicago while you

got an Amma hug? If so, your dog wants to see Amma. It will be tricky

if it's a big dog but you are creative. Dress him up and get him in

the darshan line! A hat, sunglasses, etc...he'll look like any one of

us! (I am a major dog lover and wish I could have taken some

hurricane dogs). Or short of that, have him wait next to Amma's car,

ready to open Her door.

Your dog was previously a disciple of Amma's and he ate the beads to

get your attention. You should sit in front of your dog and wait for

his instructions on what to do next. Don't worry if he just gives you

his paw, licks you or any of those regular doggie things. Every touch

by this dog is a divine gift from Amma. I have to agree with

Prasidini-your dog will have instant enlightenment.

This is so interesting! I had a similar experience with the mantra

bracelet. I had a mantra and then decided it needed to be changed. I

asked a few devotees about this-does She ever do this, etc- and of

course, many had their opinion that Amma never

does such a thing. (Who could ever assume to know anything Amma would

or wouldn't do escapes me!) Well I listened to myself and knew I

should have a different mantra. So I asked her while getting a hug.

She stopped me and said to ask Swamiji. He was standing right there,

so I looked up to ask and She grabbed my ears laughing, "no no

noooooo" and motioned that I was to get out of "hugging central"

(what an Amma hog I am) and walk around to ask.

I talked with Swami Dayamrita and he agreed. So I got my new mantra.

BUT I had the "other" mantra on my bracelet. I asked the mantra

bracelet desk about my dilemma. They said not to worry-it's really

all the same. Well I can definitely agree with that.

At some point, I can't even say when, I had a dream that my bracelet

had broken in half. It seems Amma was around in the dream as well. (I

used to have a LOT of dreams with Her in them but lately do not seem

to. What's up with that, Amma?!!) I didn't know why I had that dream

and asked a longtime devotee about it. He didn't know what it meant-

probably that I was a demon or something. lol...

One morning, I woke up-as I take my bracelet off at night. My

bracelet had broken in half during my sleep while resting on Amma's

petals from Devi Bhava! I was confused of course. Not being

enlightened all the other things kick in. Like, How can I afford

another bracelet?! So it sits still on the petals in two pieces. I

still cannot figure out how it broke in half all by itself just

sitting there. That's crazy!

Very interesting coincidence. Just yesterday I seem to have lost a necklace

I wore everyday that Amma blessed for me a few years ago. I have no idea

what it means and I'll try not to worry about. Everything is Amma's grace.

When staying at retreat November 2003, my beautiful mala disappeared

from the room. I have no idea where it went but it's not ever been

found. Someone told me that it went into the hands of someone who

probably needed it more than I did. I don't know how that is

possible! lol...but I've gotten by ok without it. Shortly afterwards

I took IAM....

The dog who ate the mala got darshan from Amma in Ypsilanti last year when

he was still a puppy. Our older dog got darshan the first time Amma came to

Fairfield. These days Amma's "handlers" get pretty tense if you try to bring

a dog near her, as someone in Germany brought a dog for darshan and it

snapped at Amma and almost bit her.

Om Namah Shivayah,

I had a similar situation last year (2004) and emailed Swamiji about

the same. Actually, I had two malas break within a week of each other.

Here is his answer:

AUM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAHA

Namah Sivaya

PLease do not worry about the Malas breaking. You can string the

Rudraksha beads together and start chanting with these again. Amma

might have broken some of your karmas like this. So please do not

worry. Thanks,

Namah Sivaya,

Dayamrita.

Hope that helps.

Was this in Detroit Retreat ( westin airport Hotel )?

What kind of mala was this one? ( 108 bead or small)

I found a similar mala at airport security gate, paged on airport

and sent email to this group but none responded.

The mala is still with me unused.

Let me know.

thanks
