Guest guest
I received this today. Many people are concerned about racism and an overmilitarization of areas devastated by Hurrican Katrina. The following may provide ways to avoid these problems. See below: *************** Here is a list of some alternative media outlets where you can get a more accurate and balanced presentation of the New Orleans catastrophe: www.diversityinc.com www.alternet.org www.blackelectorate.com www.npr.org www.daveyd.com www.slate.com www.bet.com www.allhiphop.com www.democracynow.org Debby from Ohio suggests that those who might not be able to give great quantities of cash, can donate blood to help defray the severe shortages. Contact the Red Cross or local hospitals. www.moveone.com is coordinating offers of housing and employment to those displaced. Even if you cannot offer such help, I urge you to go to the site and read the listings It will reawaken your faith in the generosity and goodness of people. It is quite inspiring. As for donations, Maraleen from Upstate New York urges us to give to the local African-American charities who are there on the ground giving aid and solace. She sends a listing of Black/Minority relief efforts courtesy of writer/activist Kevin Powell: BlackAmericaWeb.com Relief Fund PO Box 803209 Dallas, TX 75240 OR you can make an online donation by going to www.blackamericaweb.com/relief This fund has been set up by nationally syndicated radio personality TOM JOYNER NAACP Disaster Relief Efforts The NAACP is setting up command centers in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama as part of its disaster relief efforts.
