Namah Shivaya dear brothers and sisters,

First, I want to thank Yogaman and Linda for

requesting prayers and offering prayers for Amma's

safety and well-being.

I also want to share this with everyone. Once when

Amma was giving darshan for an extraordinarily long

time, some of her devotees (who were worried about

Amma's health and the toll being exacted on Amma's

physical body) began to plead with Amma to end

darshan.

Amma scolded them and told them they should never ask

Her not to give darshan. Instead, She said, they

should pray to the Paramatman for the good health of

Her physical body. Pray, She told them, that Amma will

always have the strength and energy to do what She

needs to do in this world.

Powerful, yes? As for myself, I must tell you that I

don't really understand the difference between Amma

and the Paramatman, and how it might work to pray to

one for the other. Swami Ramakrishnananda writes in

his most recent book, "Amma is a riddle, wrapped in a

mystery, inside an enigma." I couldn't agree more!

And...I guess when it comes down to it, Amma is my

beloved Mother and Guru, and so if She asks us to pray

that prayer to the Paramatman, that is what I'll do.

Thanks to Yogaman and Linda and my other brothers and

sisters who inspire and encourage me on this journey,

I will now become more faithful and diligent in those

prayers.

You know, just two nights before the attempted

stabbing of Amma at Amritapuri, I had a strong dream

in which it seemed that Amma was absorbing a lot of

darkness...and I was going to other devotees and

asking them to pray that prayer for Amma's physical

body.

I shared the dream with one other devotee friend. And

I came close to posting a request for prayers on this

list, but I imagined that such a request would be met

only with debate and ridicule, and I allowed that to

stop me.

Geez, that's kinda embarrassing to admit. Oh well, no

shortage of doubts and fears with this big, honkin'

ego!

Maybe I thought I needed to explain why such a thing

as prayers for Amma would ever be necessary...and felt

at a loss to do so. Yogaman, I really appreciated what

you shared on this subject.

I'm pretty sure I've heard Amma say that no one can

kill a Mahatma without the Mahatma's permission. Maybe

to One for whom life and death are no different...our

prayers are the reminder that permission shouldn't be

given?!!?

Anyway, in these times, let us pray for peace and for

Amma's physical body. And I give thanks to Amma and

the Paramatman :-) that Amma is here with us to help

us through 2005.

Love to you all and Jai our Amma,

Amala

namaste to all,

i too wanted to ask Amma's name to be added to the prayer list but

could not find the proper( convincing others ) words.

so i was praying to Amma for the right words ~ which She readily

supplied first via Yogaman and now via others.

perhaps this is a small example of how we are all one Self

om,

amarnath
