Namaste GeorgeSon,

I'm enjoying your many posts. They are well balanced ~ inspirational,

thought provoking, cautionary and especially your confessions of

weakness always bring tears to my eyes for they reflect my own. As

Krishnamurti put it ~ our acknowledgement of weakness is the

beginning of strength. So, I pray ~ as you help all of us acknowledge

our many weaknesses that we may all grow in strength to be more able

to help Amma. Not that She needs our help. But, we need it for our

spiritual growth.

In Matruvani, there was a story about Amma visiting AIMS Hospital.

One medical doctor was showing Her around with quite a bit of pride

in how up-to-date sophisticated and wonderful the hospital was. And

since it was Her hospital, he wondered why She was not more up-beat

about it since normally She is very up-beat. Finally as She was about

to leave, he asked Her or perhaps Amma read his thoughts and

replied "Son, this hospital is for you, not for me."

So, I welcome your warning that (in my words), no matter what we are

doing, we should always watch the egoic mind. Your words( ~ The ego

gets pumped up. The mind gets proud of what a good person I am. See

me out there helping? Surely the other devotees must approve of my

selflessness. This is a trap from the ever insidious mind. Beware!! )

But, don't let this discourage you from doing what you can. Feel the

suffering of others for truly it's our own, do as much as you are able

( physically, financially, etc ) and pray, chant your mantra, watch

your mind, see Amma in everyone, etc.

One time Amma told me "be careful." I always get spaced out and

neglect to ask for more details. Two years later, I did ask Amma what

I should be careful about. She replied "everything!" So, do what you

can and be careful.

Om Amriteswaryai Namaha,

om santi, santi, santihi

PS ~ thank you georgeson

Relief work Seva is not isolated to merely easing suffering. Easing

suffering in and of itself is indeed grand. However my sense is that

Karma Yoga in Relief Operations is designed to benefit the Sevite

more than the victim/refugee. Seva is just a yoga that's all. It is

not greater than Raja Yoga or Jnana Yoga. In fact Karma Relief Yoga

can backfire if one is not careful.. The ego gets pumped up. The mind

gets proud of what a good person I am. See me out there helping?

Surely the other devotees must approve of my selflessness. This is a

trap from the ever insidious mind. Beware!!

Amma does not need our physical help. She is sculpting us into Yogis

and Yoginis,. Seva and other humanitarian activities are merely a

device toward that end.

This is just my opinion and I pray that Amma blesses all Her Gulf

Coast children during this dark time.

With Love,

GeorgeSon
