Another Creative Way to Raise Money For Hurricane Katrina Relief

Here is another creative way to raise money for the Hurrican Katrina Relief

Funds (hopefully M.A. Center's).

List an item on Ebay and donate 100% of the proceeds of the sale to the fund.

You can label this in your subtitle and then write a paragraph about Amma, M.A.

Center and their activities in the auction text. If you want a better chance of

success, start the bidding a little lower than you would want it to sell for

retail, and feature the item if possible (an extra $19.95 fee). Go for the 10

day auction. Dont' forget to mention the 100% Tax Deductibility and that M.A.

Center is a registered 501 © 3 religious non-profit corporation. Here is an

example from two that I just set up yesterday:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8331390552

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8331406038

Take Care,

Hopefully someone buys them. I never understand why people don't just grab

things like this when it is 100% tax deductible. I like that I get to share the

info about Amma regardless of the outcome. It will be easier for me to give a

few thousand $$ this way then out of pocket, which is never so easy for me with

all my family expenses.

But we all have things we can sell on Ebay. Please everyone consider it.

How many people are in this group anyway? Seems like only 10-15.

Actually, when you buy "something" (like the coin on eBay) it is not

tax deductible 100%. It is not even partially deductible, if I

understand correctly, if the selling price is the going market price.

This is the same reason that we cannot deduct the price of the CDs we

buy from Amma's bookstore from our taxes -- we GOT something for those

dollars. This is also why Public TV does not say that you are "buying"

something when they give you a gift after you donate.

Yes, I agree. With charitable auctions, the only amount that can be deducted

for taxes is the amount "donated" that exceeds the "fair market value" of the

item. For example, if you pay $200 for a $100 item, only the extra $100 can

be deducted. I'd be surprised if auctions on eBay were any different.

Also Ebay specifically has their own charity auction structure with proceeds

going to the REd Cross. Look on their home page. But maybe I am wrong.

I can't see how there is not a way to structure it properly though, just like

PBS.

Actually, when you buy "something" (like the coin on eBay) it is not

tax deductible 100%. It is not even partially deductible, if I

understand correctly, if the selling price is the going market price.

This is the same reason that we cannot deduct the price of the CDs we

buy from Amma's bookstore from our taxes -- we GOT something for those

dollars. This is also why Public TV does not say that you are "buying"

something when they give you a gift after you donate.

just grab things like this when it is 100% tax deductible. I like

that I get to share the info about Amma regardless of the outcome. It

will be easier for me to give a few thousand $$ this way then out of

pocket, which is never so easy for me with all my family expenses.

to the fund. You can label this in your subtitle and then write a

paragraph about Amma, M.A. Center and their activities in the auction

text. If you want a better chance of success, start the bidding a

little lower than you would want it to sell for retail, and feature

the item if possible (an extra $19.95 fee). Go for the 10 day

auction. Dont' forget to mention the 100% Tax Deductibility and that

M.A. Center is a registered 501 © 3 religious non-profit

corporation. Here is an example from two that I just set up yesterday:
