OM NAMAH SIVAYA

i wanted to share this story that happened today on prayer. i hope

it isn't offensive to anyone. this morning when my wife and i

stepped out the back door for work we saw a little yellow finch on

the back steps lying there. this kind of stuff kind of wigs out my

wife so i went to get a plastic bag to pick it up. when i went to

pick it up i realized that she was not dead. we got a little

cardboard box, put some cloth in it for a little bed. Cathleen got

an eye dropper and put some water in and i went to the puja room and

got some of Amma's holy water. we mixed some of the holy water in

the eye dropper. Cathleen had to leave for work as she was already

late. i tried to give the bird some water with the eye dropper and

started chanting the mrityunjaya mantra. i was waiting for her to

perk up and fly away. that didn't happen. this went on for a

while. after awhile longer i then got some roses from the garden and

some other flower petals and started doing puja to the bird. after

about 2 1/2 hrs it didn't seem to be getting any better, if anything

the little guy was looking worse. i don't know what else to do so i

prayed to Amma to do whatever was Her will. right at that moment

the finch breathed its last breath, twitched a little and that was

it. She was dead. in the backyard we have a little temple with a

Siva lingam and a statue of Mary. i buried the bird there in front

of the temple with flowers, candles, and incense. i am not sure if

that was what is "proper" but it felt right so that is what i did.

it made me think that when i am praying many times i am praying for

the outcome i would like and maybe this is not the proper attitude

for prayer. to pray NOT for any particular outcome but rather to

remember the person and pray to Kali for Her outcome. not ours. it

made me think that prayer is as much for me as it is for the people

we are praying for. Prayer group is really quite a blessing.

my heartfelt thanks to Linda for coordinating it and all her seva.

Namah Shivaya

What a touching story - and what a lucky little bird. When we rescue an

animal we

quickly become attached to it. You bestowed love upon the bird, and sang

God's name to it

and gave it a very auspicious burial.

Thank you for charing this.

This story has blown me away. Your thoughtfulness and love towards one

little bird is admirable. People should give this much love to each

other, and you have enough in your heart to give it to a struggling bird.

You are right. Saying prayers is not always for the outcome we want.

We, as children, usually want lots of candies but MA knows that we

need spinach and brussels sprouts too.

May that bird's soul be at peace

prevents you from seeing God in everything, because the opposites do not
