I heard it for the first and/time in LA this summer and it was different , unsual but fun. It made everybody! dance. It is a rock version and maybe your son will like it. My does very much. After I heard the son in LA I talked to some indians friends and only a few had mix feelings of that version. This is sacred chant and some of them didn't approved the solo guitar. However, most of the people I asked were glad of this unusual version. It is on CD called "J and Friends". Dear Daniel ~ is this rock version available on any of the CDs at the Amma Bookstore? You seem to imply it is available. The bookstore site is still upgrading, so I can't check. In "Across the States with Shree Maa and Swami" (At least I think that is the title; if it's not, there are a few people here who will know what it is), which is a VHS of one of their US tours, it is so wonderful. Some of the devotees they have attracted to them are musicians. So they had the usual Hindu type instruments, but there was also a guitar player, I think a bass player, a mandolin player, and they were mixing all kinds of Western influences in the bhajans, including country and rock and jazz. It was incredible. Unfortunately, not available on any of their music CDs, but it is on the tour tape. It is good, I think, for cultures to retain their unique identies, and it is also good to share, and mix things up a bit once in awhile.
