Guest guest
Amritanadamayi Math had received Intelligence alert Tuesday August 23 2005 00:00 IST >From the Kerala page of www.newindpress.com (the exact url is half a mile long, and the @#%$^(* java script on this site may crash your browser!) KOLLAM: Mata Amritanandamayi said on Monday that three weeks ago she had been informed of an Intelligence report about the possibility of an attack on her. Mata told newsmen at the Amritanandamayi Math at Vallikkavu that though the Swamis had informed her of the Intelligence report, it was not taken seriously. She said that the Math authorities would not seek more security in the light of the untoward incident at the Math on Sunday. Mata said that she was not afraid to lay down her life while performing Karma. Saying that many of her devotees had collapsed after hearing the news of the attempt to attack her, she appealed to the devotees not to get panicky. Mata said that she had survived an attempt on her life by an inebriated man seven years ago. Narrating the Sunday incident, Mata said that had the Swamis failed to pacify the devotees many deaths would have occurred in the stampede at the bhajan hall. ‘‘I pardoned the attacker in my court,’’ she said. The Math has in a press release denied reports appearing in a section of the media that the attacker, Pavithran, was an inmate or a regular visitor to the Ashram. The inmates and regular Ashram devotees have never seen this person inside the Ashram premises. He appeared to be perfectly sane. At the time of being restrained, he was shouting that he had not accomplished the purpose for which he had come. The Math suspects some ulterior motive behind the attack. Math vice-president Swami Amritaswaroopanandapuri said that those who were present at the Math had not manhandled the culprit as Amma told the devotees to remain quiet. The culprit was handed over to the police. Pavithran’s father Madhavan said that his son had been a devotee of Mata Amritanandamayi for the last 18 years and he used to visit the Math and stay there regularly. Madhavan said that Pavithran had been undergoing treatment for mental disorder for the past 15 years at Changanassery in Kottayam district. Meanwhile, Karunagappally judicial first class magistrate court on Monday remanded Pavithran in judicial custody for 14 days. [note the apparent discrepancy...the MA Math says the would-be assassin Pavithran was never a resident at the ashram or known to anyone there, while Pavithran's father says he used to stay there regularly.] Keval
