''We will field our own candidates under our own symbol'', in the election scheduled to be held later this month, he said at a function to inaugurate the north zone camp for party workers here. Apparently refferring to the LDF's refusal to induct the NC (I) into its fold, he said ''we will work for the victory of the opposition candidates wherever we are weak''. He said the party expected a communication from the election ommission on the allotment of symbol in a day or two. Centre run by four PMs, Sonia ''super PM'': BJP THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bharatiya Janata Party said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was run by four Prime Ministers with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi acting as the ''Super Prime Minister''. ''While Sonia Gandhi is the super Prime Minister, the CPI (M) is the Communist Prime Minister and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad is Ultra Prime Minister,'' BJP national vice-president Venkaiah Naidu said. Addressing party workers after laying siege to the state secretariat, he alleged that lack of leadership at the centre was a road block to the development of the country as the Prime Minister only presided and the Congress President took decisions. ''While the Prime Minister takes decisions, CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat opposes it,'' he said. Stating that the UPA government had come to power in the name of common man, he alleged they were the worst affected ones, as no welfare programmes were aimed for them. After the UPA government assumed power, the prices of essential commodities had sky-rocketed, he said, pointing out that sugar price had reached the peak in the history of the country. Naidu said though the production of agriculture had increased, its benefits had not reached the farmers. The BJP state unit organised the siege demanding a CBI probe into six vigilance cases, including the SNC Lavalin and Brahamapuram diesel plant scams. Six national parties, no symbol for NC (I) THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: The state election commission has issued a release allotting symbols for parties for elections to the local self governing bodies. The commission has not allotted symbol for Karunakaran's party National Congress (Indira). The election commission has approved six parties namely Congress, BJP, CPM, CPI, BSP and NCP as national parties and has allotted symbols for them. They have also approved five parties-IUML, KC (M), Janata Dal (S), JSS, KC (J) as state parties and have allotted symbols for them. Sixty five independent symbols have been selected. The commission has so far not received the official announcement of the NC (I) and has not registered the name of the party in the central election commission. A dispute still continues regarding the name of the party. A hearing has been completed on the issue. HC orders CBI to probe Rahul's disappearance KOCHI: The Kerala High Court today ordered the CBI to investigate the disappearance of Rahul from Alappuzha. The order comes following the plea submitted by the boy's parents. He was found missing under suspicious circumstances from the courtyard of his house. The plea was submitted as they were not satisfied with the probe so far. Court allows one week CBI custody for RBI theft accused KOCHI: The Special CBI court has allowed the CBI one week's custody of Sabu Lal, former security man of the Reserve Bank of India printing press at Mysore, arrested by the agency for the theft of Rs 50 lakh from the RBI godown last year. The CBI team, which arrested Sabu Lal at Bangalore on Saturday and brought him here yesterday evening, produced him before the special CBI court yesterday. The court allowed the agency's plea that they needed Sabu Lal's custody for interrogation. At the end of the police remand period, the accused would be produced before the court once again, CBI Superintendent P Kannappan said. The CBI team had recovered Rs 30 lakh of the Rs 50 lakh stolen from the RBI godown at Mysore last year from Sabu Lal's house in suburban Mysore. Currency worth Rs 50 lakh in 500 rupee denomination was found missing while the amount was being transported from RBI Mysore to RBI Thiruvananthapuram by a container under heavy security last year. The accused was the security man on duty at the time of the theft, Kannappan said. Decision on Kochi Metro Rail next week THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Decision regarding the Kochi Metro Rail Scheme would be taken at the next cabinet meet. This was announced by Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan after holding talks with the officials of the Delhi Metro Rail. BJP's Secretariat siege begins THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP has begun their siege to the secretariat pressing its demand for a CBI probe into the deals between the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and the Canadian company SNC Lavalin. The action is also to persuade the government to order a CBI inquiry into the deal for the Brahmapuram Diesel Power Plant, executed during the tenure of the previous UDF Government. The secretariat siege began at 7 am. National leaders of the party Venkaiah Naidu and L Ganeshan, state president P S Sreedharan Pillai and former union minister O Rajagopal will participate in the siege. Mata asks for forgiveness for her attacker KOLLAM: Unfazed by yesterday's failed attack on her, spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi today said she would continue to give darshan to her disciples and asked them to forgive the accused. "All those who are born will die one day. I am going ahead keeping this reality in mind. I will carry on. I will continue to give darshan to the devotees coming here to meet me. I don't want my sons (as she refers her followers) to create any problem for what had happened yesterday," she told reporters. 'Amma', against whom a failed attempt was made by the knife-wielding attacker during bhajan programme at the ashram at Vallikkavu near here, said she expected her followers to adopt a forget-and-forgive approach. Meanwhile, the accused, who was overpowered and later handed over to the police by the disciples, has been identified as Pavithran from Idukki district. Pavithran reportedly told the police that he was a rubber-tapper and the knife he carried was the one used for tapping. He claimed that he had been visiting the ashram now and then. However, Swamy Dhyana Amrita of the Ashram told reporters "the whole thing is shrouded in mystery. It is difficult to dismiss it lightly. It is not easy to accept theories like the man was mentally unsound. If he was a follower of Amma, why did he come to the ashram with a knife? Why did he rush to Amma and injured those who came on his way?" Mata escapes bid on life in Kollam KOLLAM: There was an attempt on Mata Amritanandamayi's life within the Amritapuri Math complex, at 6.30 pm yesterday evening. However, the Mata escaped unhurt. One person, identified as Pavithran, 41, has been arrested by the Karunaga pally police in connection with the incident. The police said that Pavithran used to be an inmate of the math and was expelled from the math on Friday. The incident took place while Mata Amritanandamayi was leading evening bhajans from the auditorium of the Math. She was seated on the stage when Pavithran, wrapped in a shawl, suddenly pounced on to the stage from behind and rushed to the Mata whipping out a penknife. Three disciples of Mata Amritananadamayi who were on the stage leaped forward and stopped him. In the process, two of them, Jitesh and Anil, sustained knife injuries. Soon others rushed in and overpowered Pavithran. Police said that Pavithran is a native of Ponmani village in Idukki. He used to work as a tapping worker at a rubber estate and was a regular inmate at the Math. For some reason, he was expelled from the Math on Friday. Yesterday evening, clad in a white kurta and dhothi, he was seen entering the auditorium for joining the bhajans. He sat behind the stage and as the bhajan progressed, he jumped on to the stage allegedly to stab the Mata. The Karunagapally Police have registered a case and are investigating. Pavithran will be produced in the court today
Guest guest
Date : 2005-08-22 Indian spiritual guru, Amritanandamayi, is unhurt in an attack; assailant arrested >From M Rama Rao - Reporting for Asian Tribune from New Delhi Amritanandamayi spends close to 18 hours a day giving darshan. She hugs the devotee and often kisses the forehead or pats the back. New Delhi, 22 August (Asiantribune.com): Sudhamani, 51, known as Mata Amritanandamayi (mother of immortal bliss)' for millions at home and abroad, came under an attack at her South Indian Ashram. She was unhurt. The attack took place on Sunday evening at Kollam in Kerala, where this spiritual guru has her ashram and gives her blessings through her hugs. The assailant was overpowered by the inmates of the Ashram even as the person was just ten feet away from where the “mother’ sat at that time conducting bhajans. He had a knife. But Pavithran denied he had intended to harm Anandamayi. He told investigators that he had only wanted to move near the Mother and have her ‘darshan’ and her ‘blessings’ through a ‘hug’ Other reports however quoted eyewitnesses saying that Pavithran drew a knife and began threatening those who tried to stop him from reaching the Mata. Three persons suffered minor injuries. Amritanandamayi spends close to 18 hours a day giving darshan. She hugs the devotee and often kisses the forehead or pats the back. Not highly educated in the conventional sense, since she refused to go to school, she spends her time chanting prayers of Lord Krishna in the center of the hall, smiling, draped in a white saree. She is regarded as a god by some devotees, as a guru by some others and many more consider her as mystic. Amritanandamayi is the moving spirit behind several charity institutions, educational institutions and hospitals and has centres across the world ashrams in Canada, England, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Finland, Argentina, Brazil, Reunion Island, Japan and Singapore. ::Turns out he might not have been attempting to kill her at all. He apparently was evicted from the ashram and he wanted to get his darshan. He might have had the knife to force his way to Amma, but not to kill her. Let's hope that. Guest guest
Avram, I hope what you are saying is true that he was not trying to kill.. what concerns me also is that there were two others in the crowd who also assaulted the brahmacharies and then ran away. Half an hour ago , I chatted with a friend of mine in amritapuri. He mentioned that Amma Herself noted those two people. This makes me feel that there was a plot. maybe some religious fanatics ... let us pray that no harm befalls Amma or the ashramaties . bala sprose1 wrote: Date : 2005-08-22 Indian spiritual guru, Amritanandamayi, is unhurt in an attack; assailant arrested >From M Rama Rao - Reporting for Asian Tribune from New Delhi Amritanandamayi spends close to 18 hours a day giving darshan. Avram Umm, I'm a little dubious about this. Admittedly, it's difficult to get close to Amma sometimes, but when you're ten feet away, whipping out a knife hardly seems reasonable. Admittedly, he probably has mental problems. J. Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Beliefs of hinduism Different religions beliefs Hinduism religion Ammachi Hinduism Visit your group "Ammachi" on the web.
