So you are correct ... chanting mantra has an effect. Now, it all

depends what kind of mantras they are!! There are saatwik mantras

like Gayatri ... which are very harmless (unlike what you seem to

suggest :)) ... and most of these saatwik mantras are self-

correcting in nature, in that, even if you mis-pronounce it or do it

incorrectly, they have the power in them to guide you to do it

correctly!!!

The tamasic or tantric mantras are like double-edge sword, and you

better know what you are in for ... they typically need an able guru

to guide you. So please beware!!!

Dear Narayan and All ~ recently I posted a kind of "disclaimer" that is part

of the Chandi Path, asking forgiveness for anything that has been done or

said incorrectly. Imagine my surprise when, at the end of the "Sri Lalita

Sahasranamavali" a similar "disclaimer." Here it is: "Oh Mother, in this worship

of You, I may have made many mistakes and omissions.

I may have forgot to chant many mantras. I may have forgotten to perform

many rituals. I may have done it without proper attention or devotion. Kindly

forgive my omissions and make my worship full and complete, by Thy grace."

Divine Mother takes care of us, even in our ignorance, which is a very good

thing, as I started to fall asleep about half way through the recitation. Jai

Well, at least as far as the Lalita Sahasranama is concerned, I have read

where Amma was asked about people who feel they shouldn't do it because

their pronunciation is wrong. Her response was that a Mother loves to

hear her children say Her names, even when they can't quite

pronounce them! Perhaps they are even sweeter then.
