Yogaman and Mahamuni and others,

Yes.. i guess there are various rules and regulations regd the mantras... some

say the Gayatri alone is sufficient, some the panchakshari( om namah shivaya),

some the panchadasakshari etc...

but in all cases, initiation from a Satguru is a MUST . This much i have

learnt.

I knew of one case where the person was practicing the homa of a mantra

without initiation and Amma asked him to stop it because he was not pronouncing

it correctly.

But as Linda says, all that matters is devotion- and I may add, if we have a

personal mantra from Amma, that is equal to all these mantras. What is important

is the inititiation of the Satguru.

In india , many people are initiated into the gayatri. if you have a mantra

from Amma, i would say it is equal to the Gayatri .

It' s funny that we are having this discussion today- because today's the

day, we indians change our sacred thread, and do gayatri japa- actually tomorrow

is the gayatri japa day for us- we have to repeat a 1000 Gayatris. Maybe others

could just do their personal mantra from Amma a 1000 times.. if you dont have

one, just do Om Amritheshwaryai namah a 1000 times...

also another intersting thing happened today...

today's supposed to be auspicious to do your sacred thread ceremony and then

invite others for food at your pace.

so madhu had cooked this morning , and we were wondering as to who would come-

when all of a sudden , it turned out a good friend was in the vicinity and she

wanted to come for lunch..

it turns out that what madhu cooked was what that friend sudenly had a desire

to eat..

and do you know the friend's name....

... yes... it is Gayatri !!!!!

so funny coincidence, we had Gayatri over for lunch- I guess the Gayatri

Herself had sent her namesake for lunch .

Amma's leelas!!!

Thanks for the info. It was interesting to hear that. Anyway, there

are 15 different kinds of Panchadasakshari's among which are the

three most popular -kadi,sadi and hadi. It is possible that rules for

initiation of some of these are different.. No doubt it is a supreme

blessing to receive it from Devi Herself (i.e. Amma LOL).

A senior upasak once told me that after successive initiations of

Shodasi, Mahashodasi and Parashodasi (possibly additional ones), one

comes back to Bala mantra(traditions may differ), which generally is

given at the beginning. So this sadhak was opining that the Bala

mantra is the most powerful. Now that sounds like your name Bala :-).

Offline is fine if you want to drop a line.

someone into the Sri Vidya (panchadasakshari). But yes, generally I

dont think Amma will initiate people into that, as that requitres a

lot of prior preparation and purity.

give that mantra to him. I know of only one case where Amma has given

that mantra- it is a very very powerful mantra ... but on the other

hand Amma does encourage and bless people in reading the

Saharsranama which I would say is equivalent.

upasana, daily repetition of the Sri Lalitha sahasranama itself is

equivalent. ( actually the trisathi- but even that I hear that one of

Amma's swamijis asked someone not to repet that without initiation ).
