Guest guest
Dear Georgeson, I know this question was not directed to me, but I have been quietly meditating on it. My answer from within (and everyone's answer from within may be different) was from the example of Swami Amritatmananda. Perhaps you are familiar with this quiet swami who often sings lovely bhajans at Amma's morning programs? Early in his sadhana with Amma he was forced to flee to the Himalayas. His family was so opposed to his becoming an Amma devotee that they were going to put him in a mental hospital. As he wandered the Himalayas, he was often cold and hungry. At one time he passed out from the cold and awakened to find a warm blanket around him. Another time (perhaps you heard this talk this tour season?) he decided to see if food would appear in response to his need. After about 15 days of fasting a brand new tiffin magically appeared outside his cave. The tiffin, when opened, revealed his favorite curry, spinach, as well as other items. When he returned to Amma months later, she had a tiffin with spinach curry and other items waiting for him. I suppose he could have sought out the company of other saints. But he chose to rely upon Amma for all his needs. And his needs were fulfilled! I can't speak for others, but for myself Amma's swamis have "got it right." They are the ones (out of thousands) that She chooses to travel with Her and spread Her teachings. I have often been jealous of this seeming "priviledge." But deep inside I know that they are up there giving talks beside Her because they have made the correct choices in their sadhana. I pray to Amma that I may likewise make the correct choices that will allow me to, in some mystical way, be similarly blessed, if not in this lifetime, then some other. Various health problems (mental and physical) make Sadhana chaotic. Amma is in far away India. A recognized Hindu Saint is staying within driving distance. fo the Amma devotee. The Saint offers meditation in His/Her presence and Satsang and Prasad. The Saint is non-commercial and unquestionably pure. Should the devotee avail himself of the other Saints holy company? The Amma devotees goal is not to replace or even substitute Amma. The devotees intention is to have his consciousness raised and attain some calming of the mind. What in your opinion is appropriate in this scenario?. Bala, if you dislike hypotheticals then forgive the above. With Regard, GeorgeSon Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha!
