To George, Bala, others: Holy Company of Another Saint

namaste to all,

my 2 cents ~

we do not know ahead of time( hypothetically ) what is best for each

of us

to see or not to see another saint

if we do see another saint, just remember to see Amma in that saint

after all one of our goals is to see Amma in everyone, in everything

so this would be a good chance to practice this

if the saint is totally egoless there should be no conflict,

and Amma will remain your SatGuru if that is your destiny

from my own experience, when a saint is not totally egoless( of

course just my opinion ) or due to my own ego a conflict would appear

and then i would not see that saint any more ~ running back to

Mother's Lap of Safety

from my practical experience ~

before I met Amma, I tried to be very one-pointed( one guru, one

teaching, one practice )

after meeting Amma and taking mantra initiation,

on the one hand I felt I wanted to be totally one-pointed to Amma

on the other hand I felt a kind of freedom to see other saints and

still have Amma as my SatGuru

so i used to see Karunamayi also

one time I asked Karunamayi for something

and She said "Amma will take care of it" it was confusing because

both Karunamayi and Mata Amritanandamayi are called Amma( as well as

millions of other women in India )

but i also did feel that Karunamayi meant my SatGuru( Ammachi ) will

take care of me ~ or the Inner Amma which is the One-Self in

everything ~

later i thought ~ OK there is no need to see Karunamayi anymore ~ and

felt comfortable with that

then five years ago my partner( Samarpana ) met me

i introduced her to Ammachi ~ first time she got mantra and name and

totally accepted Ammachi as her SatGuru

then i introduced her to Karunamayi and she benefits a lot from many

Karunamayi chants as well as the 108 names of Ammachi, Lalita

Sahasranama, bhajans, etc ~ she likes Karunamayi and has no doubts

about Ammachi being her SatGuru ~ she feels no conflict( as i do

sometimes ) in seeing other saints ~ but not all saints ~ we do use

some discrimination

i also introduced another friend to Ammachi and was hoping he would

be one-pointed and do at least some of the many spiritual practices

Ammachi recommends ~

i did not want to confuse him with other saints and he did have very

good experiences with Ammachi's hugs

but he has limitations and can see Ammachi only once( two days ) per

year and some of my appointments( expectations ) for him were

disappointments

last spring i did take him to see Karunamayi ~ he felt a deep

meditative silence and started listening to some of Karunamayi's

chants ~ will see how things go ~ in this case i have no idea who is

to be the SatGuru of my friend

Dayalu, author of "Looking for God" who lives at the San Ramon

ashram, at some point reached the conclusion that other people may

have their own paths, their own gurus which may not include our

Ammachi ~ hard to imagine this but i think he is right ~

For each one of us ~ it's between I and God ~

Amma's Blessings,

amarnath

his "conciousness " raised and some peace. Of course, he does not

intend to "replace" Amma in his heart or try for a substitute.

first, it is very nice. The other saint gives good talks, and sings

songs and has His/Her own devotees who have various wonderful

experiences with that saint.

devotee, there lurks in his subconcious mind a vasana - its called

the "comparison" vasana. This ugly demon starts rearing its head.

He starts comparing his beloved Amma with this other Guru.

Amma has a such a big following , i hardly get to talk to Her..."

Amma only sent me to this Guru.. maybe I need special attention from

this Guru"... then gradually the devotee starts getting confused.

Unknown to himself, owing to this confusion , his devotion and

committment to Amma is descreasing. And suprisingly, he is not

devoted to the other Guru either as the same mind which tricked him

is still with him. The mind will continue to paint scenarios, give a

million excuses- till the confused devotee misses both boats, and is

left standing on the land.

The Amma devotees goal is not to replace or even substitute Amma.

The devotees intention is to have his consciousness raised and attain

some calming of the mind.

Hi,

I had to add some remarks to this and hopefully it won't turn into a

religious controversy; atleast that is not the intent.

I agree with Dayalu if he has reached such a conclusion. I have

always felt that was true, and I find it hard to understand why

people can't accept it. (Ok, I do understand the intense love and

devotion one feels for Ammachi that causes this consternation, but

we need to able to separate the orientation of our devotion from

that of others' devotions)

After all, this is the basis of tolerance and acceptance, BUT not

accepting it is at the root of religious fundamentalism. Initially,

it may be harmless but it grows like a cancer insidiously.

Also, Infinity is as Infinity does: possibilities for evolution for

others can come from sources different than what we feel are best.

Best is to let go and pray for everyone's success. That is the path

of least resistance. That is the path for a silent unconditional

love and acceptance of one and all.

Jai Ma!

We are all brothers and sisters here. I don't think anyone is judging anyone

else. We are just having an indepth discussion on an important subject.
