Guest guest
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Amma ~ I must say again how much the train metaphor inspired me. Some of you may know I am a singer/songwriter, but it has been a long time since I've performed, because of my illness, and I haven't been writing either. Now, recently, Amma has sent Her inspiration to me to write two songs (the birthday song, that I already shared, and this one). I thought my songwriting and singing was gone forever. Yet this morning as I finished up the song, I was singing happily away, froggy voice and all. I am definitely in Amma's washing machine at this point, getting lots of tests, but I am also on the Amma Train, getting lots of Grace. What a wonderful mother. To put the song into context, I included a few of the original posts that helped inspire me. And I feel it necessary to say this song is written in a traditional folk style, like Woodie Guthrie, hence the bit of wry humor. Next I think I'll have to make a drawing of the Amma Train. : ) Jai Ma ~ Linda TRAIN POSTS FROM DIGEST "You may be right, but I just this summer "got it" that Amma keeps telling us (over and over) that we're like the guy on the train who keeps running up and down the aisle with his suitcase. So I'm opting for sitting down on the train this year--(grin)-- until Amma lets me know otherwise, of course." "Of course I will be frequently chanting my mantra as the train chugs onward--and keeping my mind on the darling Engineer with the black bun! I can imagine Swamiji as the fireman shoveling coal!" "(I like this train analogy! I can also just see Amma up in the engine laughing hard as the train goes through tunnels, passes forest fires beside the tracks, screams around hairpin curves, and roars over breathtakingly high trestles. Whew! This timid traveler may keep her eyes shut tight as she chants the mantra!)" Song lyrics below. Blessings from Amma's little one ~ Linda Amma's Train 1. Amma, we are riding on the Train of Life, and You are the Engineer. Big Swami shovels coals to keep the train moving on, and in each car, we're all so glad we're here. 2. We go 'round twisty bends holding our breath, trusting Amma's Hands to guide the Train. We go over deep caverns, and sometimes close our eyes, but with you at the front, we're not afraid. Chorus Oh Amma's Train, Oh Amma's Train, Amrita, Amrita, here She comes again. Chugging along on a prayer and a song. Can't you hear the Train just coming around the bend. 3. You don't need a ticket. You don't need a bag, just check your egos at the door Because whe you get on the Amma Train, you'll find All that you've been looking for. 4. In this car, someone's saying her mantra; in this other car, someone prays. And in another car, someone's standing on his head, and all of us are constantly amazed. Chorus Oh Amma's Train, Oh Amma's Train, Amrita, Amrita, here She comes again. Chugging along on a prayer and a song. Can't you hear the Train just coming around the bend. 5. There's always room on the Amma Train, even if it's only the caboose. And once you get on, you never want to leave when you realize you had nothing to lose. 6. And up in the front of Amma'sTrain, our Mother laughs as She drives along. Her beautiful hair blows in the breeze, and we all know this is where we belong. Chorus Oh Amma's Train, Oh Amma's Train, Amrita, Amrita, here She comes again. Chugging along on a prayer and a song. Can't you hear the Train just coming around the bend. © Linda Talbott 2005 for Amma
Guest guest
Some are on the train. Some are in the frig. Some are in the washing machine. Some are in the veggie patch. Where is She not! > > >
Guest guest
I have always loved trains... spending my childhood summers in West Virginia where the train tracks adjoined my grandparent's property. We always ran out and waved to the engineer and the man on the caboose. I loved the sound of their whistles. Now I can add the image of the Amma Train. How wonderful. I can just see Her enjoying the ride. On Aug 11, 2005, at 8:39 AM, nierika wrote: > > > > Dear Brothers and Sisters in Amma ~ I must say again how much the > train > metaphor inspired me. Wouldn't Amma's sari get all dirty from the coal and cinders in the cabin of a steam locomotive?? :0 I tend to imagine her at the throttle of a mighty diesel or electric loco, e.g. a WAP-4 (Indian Railway fans will know this is a workhorse loco on high-speed trains such as the Rajdhani Express between Delhi and Calcutta). In Kerala you can ride a train that was actually named for Amma - the Amrita Express between Palghat Town and Trivandrum! if any of our Indian members have traveled on this train please tell me about your journey on what is quite literally "Amma's train". Visit the Indian Railways Fan Club http://irfca.org/faq/faq-name.html for more names of Indian trains. Only in India would you find trains called the Ahimsa Express (Ahmedabad - Pune), Ashram Express (Ahmedabad - New Delhi), and Gurudev Express (Nagercoil - Howrah).
