Well, having just read this I'm wondering if the author is

suggesting this as a psychological technique. It's my

opinion that Amma already knows how all of us were as

children, teenagers, etc. In fact, she stunned me once

by offhandedly referring to an incident that took place

when I was ten years old. She already knows everything,

so any benefit from this must be psychological for the

writer of the letter.

I too am burdened with physical and psychological pain. The Amma leaves North

America pain only adds to this..

"The Path of the Mother" book gives a detailed instruction on how to write to

Mother. I just read this a few minutes ago for the first time.

Has anyone in this Satsang tried Savrtia Bess' letter writing sadhana?

This was exactly my reaction as well. Why does Ms. Bess have us go

through all of this decade by decade rehashing for Amma. What for?

I totally agree that Amma already knows our past. Not just in this

lifetime but the previous as well.

If Savrita Bess is a member of this Satsang I invite you to

explain your lengthy methodology, if it pleases you.

My mind - that monkey - wants to express some conjecture.

Perhaps Amma sees that we are Tamasic (lazy) We want to have Amma

clean our vasanas with little or no effort on our part.

The teenage boy has a room like a pig sty. Magazines on the floor.

Dirty football uniform tossed on top of an end table. This imaginary

boy expects his mother to clean and tidy the mess without even asking.

Perhaps Savrita Bess recognizes that we have to exact strenuous

effort effort before Amma showers Her grace upon our letters. This

is my educated guess. Perhaps we need to invest more energy and

pathos before we can expect Grace.

The monkey mind giggles.

Dear George,

You may be right, but I just this summer "got it" that

Amma keeps telling us (over and over) that we're like

the guy on the train who keeps running up and down

the aisle with his suitcase. So I'm opting

for sitting down on the train this year--(grin)--

until Amma lets me know otherwise, of course.

Om Namah Shivaya:

Jai Ma Jai Sadguru Jai!

Dear Jyotsna:

Gangaji said that Satsang is a place where we can air out our stuff.

I can appear argumentative. Please do not take my response as an

argument. Argumentation comes from the ego; i.e. - I am right - You

are wrong.

NO NO - THAT IS NOT MY INTENTION. Let us dialogue and jointly attain

SAT CHIT ANANDA. I will settle for SAT. No this is not a reference

to Scholastic Aptitude Exam.

My response to this Sister Jyotsna is do as you please. Sit on the

train enjoy the view and drink a lemonade.

Big Swami during this Summer's tour relayed Amma's parable of the ice

cream cone.

The Guru does the heavy lifting. Rest assured. But Amma says, the

disciple HAS TO MAKE SOME EFFORT.

Amma said: If you desire an ice cream cone you have to get out of

bed. Get dressed. Get in the car. Drive to Baskin and Robbins.

Stand on the line. Pay the cashier. It is necessary to earn the

money to pay for the cone as well. Big Swami said that you do not

get the ice cream cone delivered to your room via room service all

expenses paid. (I am paraphrasing here)

Jyotsnaji, using the train metaphor don't you have to drive to

Amtrak. Stand on line. Earn the money for the fare?

Just my two rupees opinion. I may be off here.

With Love,

GeorgeSon

Dear Leokomor:

It is interesting to me what Gangaji said. I went to have her darshan

once in Marin County. After about 15 minutes, my friend and I walked

out. Gangaji said jokingly "was it something I said". I didn't

answer, but I wanted to say "no, it's your whole concept of satsang."

It all seemed like a performance. Sort of a combination of therapy and

confrontation orchestrated by a beautiful Western woman. The contrast

to Amma couldn't have been greater.

I agree that Amma knows everything. Trying to understand how she knows

all of our thoughts, all at the same time, all over the world is a

concept beyond the mind (GOD). I believe that writing as is described

in the Path of the Mother (a book I read not too long ago-thanks,Robin)-

is an exercise to purify your own mind. It certainly isn't for Amma-as

I'm sure we all know. But I think it is simply another process so that

you can clear out more thoughts and make room for that space of bliss

and nothingness.
