OM amriteshvaryai namaH

Namaste Friends,

Can you suggest some good books that I as a beginner can start with?

I just got one book ... the biography by AmritaSwarupananda.

Thanks

Warm Regards

Narayan

Om amriteshvaryai namah

I have only read two books about Amma.

Awaken Children in which Swami Amritaswarupananda journals

conversations and experiences with Ammachi. I read Volume 1 and loved

it. There are 9 volumes.

The Path to the Mother by Savitri Bess (an American devotee).

I think I'd recommend sticking with the Beloved Swamiji.

Beyond Big Swami's biography of Amma and the Awaken Children series (dialogues

from

years ago between Amma and Her children), I really strongly recommend the two

books by

Ramakrishnananda Swami, "Racing Along the Razor's Edge" and "Ultimate Success."

Both of

these books of his resonated so deeply with me. His writing is so powerful and

moving.

Ditto on all of the Awaken Children series of books,

for starters. All of the books containing experiences

with Amma written by swami(ini)s, are especially

enjoyable, in addition the experiences recorded

Dayalu.

Speaking of books, I noticed on eBay that someone is selling a

six-tape set of Swamijji's satsangs, and also a lot that includes

several of the Awaken Children volumes, the commentary on The Thousand

Names of the Divine Mother, and several of the Getting to Joy series.

I personally have enjoyed all of the spiritual journeys with Amma

written by devotees -- but among them, Come Quickly My Darling

Children is an especially nice collection of stories, as is My First

Darshan. love, prashanti

I definitely recommend the Awaken Children series. They were the

very first books I ever read about Amma!

The Awaken Children volumes show Amma more in the light of a guru,

more so than the way she seems now (IMHO), maybe because of the

larger group of devotees and ashramites nowadays. The same with

Swami P's satsang tapes, they're great, but I hardly see anyone

applying such "old school sadhana" these days. I mean, why go

through all that work when all you have to do it do IAM and go for

darshan? It's as if that Amma was replaced by simply a "world

mother" figure.

Swami P's autobiography volumes are good. His second volume is

interesting because it gives a different view of some of the same

events detailed in some of the other books like Awaken Children or

the other 2 similar ones(Eternal Wisdom, I think). For example, in

the Awaken Children volume account, Amma levitates off the ground at

one visit, while Swami P recalls her only bouncing around.
