I heard this playing for the first time at a wedding at the Rhode Island retreat, and I had to find out what it was! It's so much fun! Dear all ~ unfortunately, the Bhajanmritam series does not appear to be available on the website. I'm not sure why, since this was such a power group of bhajans. Guest guest
Amrita Vahini, English translation, pp. 20-22, Bhajanamritam IV "Salutations to that great leader who has incarnated on this Earth as the vehicle of immortality. Victory unto that incomparable and beautiful form that is the embodiment of reason, of experience, and of all the knowledge that is contained in the Vedas. You provide solace to those who struggle day and night to be from the attachments of the mind. You wait with boundless compassion to awaken the ultimate consciousness in us. The time has come now to cross over the waves of worldliness. If you are smart enough, come. Don't you see that Mother is ready to hold our hands and pull us to the shore, to bless us with prosperity? Even if all the vows and chanting of mantras goes in vain, still if the Guru's compassionate glance is made to fall on us, it will bestow the desired ends. Even though others may make fun of us, don't feel humiliated. Contine to worship this great, pure soul (Mother) alone. O Mother! You are the nature of completeness. If Your heart melts then we need not roam about the world in search of fulfillment. By meditating upon this truth, let us purify our hearts. Shed the feeling "I am the body" and we will go to the Self, rowing through the ocean of nectar. When we drink that imperishable nectar and awake, then the waves of darkness will disappear and the entire universe will melt into divine light and knowledge. Work for that which is the only thing worth striving for without wasting even one single moment. Seek eternal refuge in the vehicle of immortality!" Swamijji rocked the house at Royal Plaza, 7/24/05. It's amma-mazing to have an anniversary song like that! love, Prashanti
Guest guest
This song (Amritavahini) is set to the same tune as 'Kuttanadan Punjayile', a popularly heard Malayalam song that is sung by rowers in the boat races that take place near Amma's ashram during the Onam season, in the month of August/September. Long black wooden boats race through the backwaters with dozens of rowers each, rowing in synchronicity.
