Oh Ananthasree ~ I know exactly the song you speak of. It was on a tape by Gayatri (I'm sorry, I can't remember her swamini name, and that was the name on the tape), but it is no longer availabe on Mother's website, nor did I see the song on any of the English Bhajan series. The song is based on an old folk song, "The Water is Wide." It was modified to include Amma...something like this I believe: The water is wide; I cannot cross over. Neither have I wings to fly. But there is a boat that can carry me. That boat is named Amritanandamayi. Perhaps if you write to the Marlboro satsang (if they were the ones who did the singing), they would be able to send you the words, or a copy of the tape. I wish I still have mine. It is probably in Oregon with most of my other belongings (I am in NM). I hope you can get a copy of this song because it really is so beautiful. Guest guest
Dear Linda, We seem to be talking about two different "boat songs" here! The one Ananthasree is talking about isn't in English and is set at a much faster pace, with different words...even if, when it comes down to it, they're all about Amma carrying us across the river! =) Incidentally, if you like the song "The Water Is Wide," I recently heard a beautiful version by Irish alternative artist Luka Bloom (you can download it from iTunes, if you have that). He usually plays his guitar pretty intensely, but he ended up with tendonitis at one point and recorded a CD of lullabies/softer songs. "I'll Walk Beside You" on the same is also lovely! Guest guest
Unless my memory is mistaken...there was another very fast paced song played toward the very end of Devi Bhava in MA. It sounded like it contained different names of Devi...I remember hearing Lakshmi and Kali etc. etc in the song. Sung by Swami. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Jai Ma! Swamijji also did a very fast-paced version of "Devi Saranam" at one point, with the lovely fiddle player from the San Ramon satsang doing his thing as well. Maybe that's the song you are thinking of. Devi Saranam, Durge Saranam, Lakshmi Saranam, Kali Saranam.... love, prashanti
Guest guest
"Devi Saranam" in the bhajan books is a different song. Do you know if the one you're talking about has a different name?
