Guest guest
Om Amriteswarye Namah: Dear Brothers and Sisters: I regret introducing this topic viz. United Nations Recognition. Tony saw the trappings of cultism in the "Amma Movement" I think that Tony is correct. We do indeed have the "appearance" of a cult. This is on the surface level but the appearance is undeniable. 1) We have our own internal language. 2) We see Amma as as divine or even as an Avatar. This breaks away from conventional religion 3) We frown on criticism of Amma. 4) Many of us take career loss and financial falls because of our zealous need to follow Amma. These are symptoms of cultism. Unfortunately topics like this raise peoples hackles. I have seen this group get hostile and flaming can result. Why flame any critique of the Amma movement? If we are intolerant of criticism then are we not acting "cult-like"? Nevertheless, I personally do not have the slightest doubt that Amma's organization is NOT a cult. The Prime Minister of India endorses. Amma. The Chief Minister of Kerala and the current President of India are devotees. Amma addressed the U.N. and was President of the 1993 Parliament of Religions. Former U.S. Senator Pressler came to the 2004 Michigan Program. Would the U.N. and the Government of India stake their political reputation on a cult? I seriously doubt that. So having offered my two rupees worth I wish to close this string before anyone flames criticism. Criticism is healthy but it comes from the head and not the heart. It would be better if we love each other here and feel safe. I would rather be called wrong than disharmonious. So perhaps this discussion can stop now.
