Guest guest
Hi All, Anyone know the standard shots and vaccinations that westerners get when they go to Amritapuri? Jai Ma, Advait
Guest guest
I was given the following vaccinations: Hepatitis A Typhoid Meningitis Tetanus Booster Polio Booster I was also given a prescription for Malarone, an antimalarial that has very few side effects, unlike Larium (which can cause serious neuropsychological problems, so I'd avoid it). Hope this helps, Iswari Ammachi, Tom aka Advait <jaiamma@g...> wrote: > Hi All, > Anyone know the standard shots and vaccinations that westerners get when > they go to Amritapuri? > Jai Ma, > Advait > > >
Guest guest
I was given no vacinations, but glad I had already received a series of 3 Hep B vacinations. My physician sent a bottle of Cipro with me, in case of intestinal upset. ammasiswari <ammasiswari wrote:I was given the following vaccinations: Hepatitis A Typhoid Meningitis Tetanus Booster Polio Booster I was also given a prescription for Malarone, an antimalarial that has very few side effects, unlike Larium (which can cause serious neuropsychological problems, so I'd avoid it). Guest guest
We also had no vacinnations. We did bring something for possible intestinal upset but due to Amma's grace did not have to use it. We stayed at Amritapuri for 5.5 months, travelled only for two weeks and Samarpana did go on the S.India tour with Amma. We did feel Amma's protection. But, of course, it's good to be prepared and feel comfortable according to your beliefs in medicine, etc. Hope this helps, amarnath Ammachi, wrote: > I was given no vacinations, but glad I had already received a series of 3 Hep B vacinations. Guest guest
It's not standard to get vaccinations when visiting Kerala (the state where Amritapuri is situated). I did not get any vaccinations when I went there and others I traveled with did not either. I came back with a slight cold. A lot of people got e coli which was treated with anti biotics. Guest guest
The various health agencies do recommend the vaccines below (tetanus booster, typhoid, Hep A, polio booster - there have been some recent outbreaks of meningitis although the chances of encountering that one are probably pretty low), even if none are compulsory. In general, it is a good idea to be updated with a tetanus booster if you haven't had one in years, just in case you step on or get cut by anything, to prevent infection. I would also do the typhoid vaccine because I know people (including a devotee traveling to the ashram) who've contracted it in Kerala and have almost died as a result. Apparently, the strains of typhoid there have developed some resistance to the medications used to treat it. Kerala has definitely made advances toward wiping out polio, but it's not completely eradicated. Also, it's still monsoon season in India. More water means more mosquitos. I know a lot of people believe that Amma will protect them from malaria, but, personally, I'm not interested in risking it. f you do take an anti-malarial medication as a preventative, definitely check into malarone. It's a newer medication with very few side effects. I suppose everyone has to weigh the risks and benefits and decide for him/herself. In terms of e. coli, I was told to try pepto-bismol first, because the bismuth in that can often kill the e. coli, but that it's good to have an antibiotic in case that doesn't work. Guest guest
I dont know is that right to ask such a question here? If not please forgive me. Is this mail coming from Amma directly or from somebody with Amma's permission? Anyway it is good idea to give advices to common people all over the world. It should be reached in hard copies also. Amma's children can do a lot to prevent infectious diseases too. I dont know how the local satsang's work in kerala and other parts. But I heard that they are doing so many good things there. All the best for Satsang's all over the world. Aum Amrutheswariye Namah.
