I am lucky enough to be attending the devotional celebration and puja tonight at MA Center in San Ramon. I have embraced Amma as my guru since first seeing her picture 14 years ago. I would like to ask for the prayers of my brothers and sisters in surrendering this stubborn self to her once and for All. I have been asking her help the past four years around a tender issue. She has encouraged me and asked for my patience- the hardest for me! What I have not done is to fully GIVE this to her. It causes me great pain to control and hold it myself when Mother has openly offered me her help if I will merely allow time. When I go to the puja tonight I am making a determination to place my situation completely with her and be free, knowing she is already doing what is best. I am so sorry I have fought her kindness. Will you believe in me, that Mother's stubborn girl might have a chance to surrender here and now? Keep in mind as well that days in the vedic system are measured sunrise to sunrise. For both Iowa and Wash D.C., 7/10 is when the tirth of Guru Purnima will fall and it definitely will end before the 11th. Here are three questions 1) Why are you mentioning July 10 in your response below?. 2) Does it go by July 11 in Indian time (a day later?) 3) Someone told me that the exact moment the Full Moon comes into form determines the start of Guru Purnima. Guest guest Posted May 18, 2006 Report Share Posted May 18, 2006 Actually, I do that quite often and it doesn't change my state at night, more late afternoon/early evening. Food moving is a good workout for me when I can't get much else on Tour. Mother has trained me to do without sleep over the years. Now its no big deal. I made a vow long ago to not go to sleep before She leaves a program. She is not napping, so I am not napping. Many times I've stayed up over 40 hrs straight. In the beginning we would all die if Mother went to 4 or 5 AM. Now those are early nights! HA! I remember falling asleep before 1 AM at my first Bhava. Up in the loft of the barn in New Hampshire. Namaskarams! according to Sri Jagannatha Hora, the Guru Purnima will start in India (Trivandrum at least) around 11:00 AM on Monday July 10th approximately half a day ahead of that time in the US...as India is ahead by that much time. so i do not understand where the July 11th date comes from...even using the south indian preferred Raman ayanamsha it does not change enough to notice...even playing around with the various different preferences and possibilities for calculations i still wind up with essentially the same result...11:00 AM Monday July 10th for Tiruvananthapuram, India.... oh well...
