Guest guest
A person I will not name posted: All beings have a sacred right to life. We pray Lord Shiva in the name of all beings that You end all fishing, all tree killing, all violence to any flower or bee, animal or human being, on the planet now and forever. We pray that in the future free lodging and food for those who cannot afford it, that devotees tell food contributors to bring food without eggs. Dear moderators ~ I don't know how other people felt about this, but to me it felt like spam. Think of all the flowers that are used during Amma's Tour, for garlands, for petaling during darshan, for Devi Bhava. This really bothered me. That's all ~ Linda

We pray > Lord Shiva in the name > of all beings that You end all fishing, Not likely. Fishing is a staple of the Keralan economy, Amma's birth family included. If fishing is so violent and politically incorrect, why is Amma's ashram spending some of the billion rupees it has pledged for tsunami relief to rebuild the fishing boats and help Kerala's fishermen (no, all you feminists and raving PC types, I am not going to say "fisherpeople") get back to earning a living? > > > > Dear moderators ~ I don't know how other people felt > about this, but to me > it felt like spam. But if the person who posted it really got on his/her soapbox and launched into a long-winded spiel, I would have rejected the message. A reminder: political postings of any kind, not relating to Amma or Eastern/Hindu spirituality in general, are not allowed on this list. This includes politically correct, über-leftist rantings such as the virtues of a vegan diet, and why vegetarians hold the moral high ground. Discussing whether plants and flowers qualify as "sentient beings" and feel pain the same way as animals do, is also not a relevant topic for this listserv. Weeeelll, since you just so happened to mention this, Amma did say something like if we're perceptive enough, then we'll realize that even trees have feelings. Somewhere it's also written that Amma said animals have feelings, as do people, but that they don't feel them as strongly, (or was it as deeply?) as we feel them. She's also referred to ants as Her children, which might give someone a second thought about smashing that next benign insect! Guest guest
Back in the 70's Jacob Browski's Ascent of Man series illustrated with sound equipment that plants do indeed have feelings. He took a field of wheat and hooked it up to a sound/vibration equipment and recorded their response to music and conversation etc. At the time I was a vegetarian and I was so upset that I was harming plants that I started eating meat again hahaaha. It was a very confusing time the 70's!
