Shree Maa of the Devi Mandir claims that there is no record of her

birth and that family members do not know when she was born (even when

her mother was alive.) She also will not give out her birth name. I

always liked the fact that Amma was so open about her family roots and

her given name.

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!!

Namaskarams to my brothers and sisters!

May Amma bless and protect you all always.

perhaps Sree Maa doesn't wish the jyotishis to examine Her chart, and

all the busybodies, like us, to dwell at length upon Her personal

history....Often Holy women and men will disavow entirely their past

familial life...i imagine it's not uncommon for them to say just like

Sree Maa, that they have no idea when they were born...don't have to

deal with the second guessers...

however, that being said, i would indeed still be very surprised if

strongly committed Hindu folks would not know when their beloved

daughter or son was born, especially as any prospective groom or

bride (family at least) would definitely want to know, such that they

could take it to the Jyotishi for the relationship analysis, which

most would want to do...at least to compare the Nakshatras.......

but a swami or mahatma may not be interested in his/her followers

dwelling upon all those details...to focus them on the present

problem, which is THEMSELVES...and not the guru's details...

thus the possible claim of forgetfulness...to keep private details of

one's family life private...

Amma on the other hand has Her Ashram at the family home, so it's

impossible to keep the family life as personal and private as one

might like, if based at an ashram hundreds of miles from

home...besides Amma is being a little more like a householder, so to

speak, in developing Her ashram at the family home...and i think that

Her approach is one of utter transparency...what you see is what you

get...nothing to hide...at least i believe that is the INTENT of Amma

and the organisation as well.

Also Amma is actively promoting the growth of Jyotish understanding

among Her devotees....perhaps it's deliberate, to provide some

instruction to those jyotishi types who might be interested...

After all, we need only think of all the Brahmasthanam Temples that

Amma has raised all over India...and that their purpose is to help to

alleviate Astrological afflictions...such as afflictions by Mars,

Saturn, and Rahu/Ketu. so that might go together with allowing the

birth data to get out...as well, even if we DO have a correct birth

chart of Amma...that doesn't mean that we'll really be understanding

Her greatness any more than without it...How can one really hope to

understand such a Mahatma as Amma? Who are we to think that we might

really understand Amma? We just get little glimpses of this and that,

whatever our limited understandings can encompass...whatever She

thinks that we might be needing at this time....

i do think it would be more difficult for Her to promote Jyotish and

its remedial systems if She were less forthcoming about Her OWN birth

details...

who knows why really....just my ramblings...

In Amma's Divine Love,

and in Her Service,

as ever,

visvanathan

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!
