Guest guest
Namah Shivayah Nandu I think that the newspaper articles tend to just give the basics, as "human interest" stories and not much more. I really like that they do mention Amma's charitable activities and not just the fact that she hugs people. It's good to qualify the article by mentioning that she's hugged millions and received the awards. I think that people better understand that Amma is a world-wide persona and not just a flit in the pan, so to speak. I, for one, appreciate that the articles tend to be high level. I can pass this on to my mother and sisters, and they can get an idea as to why I travel to see Amma twice a year and that I am not crazy! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Recent media coverage tends to be generally positive. Considering this is the conservative Fox/Disney era that is somewhat heartening. Today's lengthy piece in the prestigious Washington Post is read by every power type in the Capitol. No other Indian guru is getting even a minute fraction of the amount of media coverage as our Beloved. Male Gurus are non Media entities these days. Female Gurus like Sri Karunamayi get zero media play. (Keval correct me if I am wrong) Last year when I was in NYC for Her program, She was on four eleven o'clock news television stations in the largest Media Market in America. This to me is mind boggling. The bible-toting fascists, religious right wing, and war-mongering neo-cons tend to read the Washington Times. Gee Dubya's GOP lackeys wouldn't be caught reading such a liberal rag as the Washington Post. > > No other Indian guru is getting even a minute > fraction of the amount > of media coverage as our Beloved. > > Male Gurus are non Media entities these days. > Female Gurus like Sri > Karunamayi get zero media play. (Keval correct me if > I am wrong) As far as I can recall, I have never seen an article about Karunamayi in any North American newspaper. You won't even find much about her in the Times of India, the Hindu, and other Indian newspapers. Seems to me that most of the mass-circulation newspaper articles about Amma's tour tend to follow the same format: a little bit on Amma's charitable work, the darshan experience, some sound bites from devotees, a few comments from one or more of the swamis, and perhaps Amma herself. They're generally in the human interest category, not front-page news, though last year, Amma was on the front page of the Toronto Star, presumably because it was her first-ever visit to Canada. BTW, if you go to a newspaper web site such as the Washington Post or Chicago Tribune, that requires registration and a password to view articles, don't give them a license to spam. The MA organization has a PR department that has made a major effort to get Mother into the mainstream media. I remember a few years ago reading something somewhere that they "launched" Mother in 1997. I believe that there is a former media or PR devotee who orchestrates this and acts as a spokesperson. Since that time the crowds have become huge with more and more people coming to see Mother. Many spiritual organizations will put postings in alternative newspapers, etc., announcing the presence of their spiritual leader and that's about it. This is not at all to diminish Mother's greatness. I don't think She would have received the press if She was not the incredible Love Machine that She is.
