Guest guest
has anyone out there read the late Swami satchitananda's "the living Gita" translation? I highly recommend it. One of the best I've read with good commentary. I've noticed that many people have only the Hare Krishna version, but that is definitely not my favorite. Guest guest
Yes, it is a very good version. I also am deeply in love with Stephen Mitchel's translation, which is just so beautiful and enjoyable. Also, I really love Ram Das's new book "Paths to God; Living the Bhagavad Gita." There are really wonderful stories from his own life in it, including lots of juicy tales about Neem Karoli Baba, who I just adore. Very funny and heart-opening book. love, Prajna --- ckeniley2003 <ckeniley2003 wrote: > has anyone out there read the late Swami > satchitananda's "the > living Gita" translation? > > I highly recommend it. Guest guest
Speaking of Bhagavad Gita, there's a very nice inexpensive hardbound English translation by William Q. Judge which is accompanied by Notes on the Bhagavad Gita. Each costs a bit $5 plus shipping from the United Lodge of Theosophists which does have a website. It is the first Gita I ever read. After studying Gita with Shankara Bhasya I reread Judge's translation and Notes and found them excellent. His translation succeeds in the challenge of accurate meaning rendered with some beauty of expression. Re: the Notes and Shankara-bhasya, Shankara's commectary is quite dry and technical but Judge manages to capture the essence and render it in a charming way. There is no great amount of Sanskrit in these books. Thus they may be disappointing for those who could appreciate that.
