Om Amritheshwaryai namaha

Namah shivaya all,

It s been great reading all these Kali emails.. I just got back this morning

from dallas . Amma was in shining green during last night's Devi bhava...

reminded me of the verse "maata maragata shyaama maatangi madashalini" from

kalidasa's poem- "Mother, dark green, emerald like ....". It was esp beautiful

because just the last week Ramakrishna Swami had sung a song "Madura madura

Meenakshi" during the devi bhava ... i was thinking of Amma as Meenakshi ( a

Famous form of the Divine Mother, dressed in green).. and here almost as an

answer to my prayer I got to see Her in green ...

somehow, seeing Amma in green moves me a lot ... i am reminded of Meenakshi

Devi and also of Devi's dark complexion..

Even though the thousand names describes the Mother as Red ( sindura Aruna) ,

there are plenty of references to Her dark complexioned ( shyamala ) form .. and

Amma always reminds me of that .. the shining dark compexioned Devi.

Anyway .... there are so many stories of Amma having given visons as Kali/Devi

etc..

In Awaken children vol 4 we have this story of a devotee sitting near Amma

suddenly fainting and falling down , having obtained a vision of Kali dancing on

Shiva ... he swooned- Amma gave her attendant a rose from Her garland to be

kept under the man's nose- the man revived and came back to normalcy .

the next day he asked Amma " Amma was it you who gave me the vision? Please

tell me, arent you Kali?"

to which Amma replied "Yes son, I am Kali".

thanks for the song Hrim Kali.. i love the song and sing it often as it

describes Amma's life story- first She became Krishna- then Her own nature of

Kali (!) , then She became the peaceful lalithambika, She became a guru to the

ascetics, mother to the children, refuge of the devotees- AND EVERYTHING FOR

ME! ( adiyanu sarvam nee Amme bhagavati)

There is also the story of a man from bengal ( from Awaken children Vol 8) who

visited Amritapuri. While he was having lunch( i think Amma had handed out the

plates of food), he set apart a ball of rice on his plate thinking to himself

"Amma if you are Kali, you should come and eat this ball of rice from my

plate". This was the sign he was praying for.

Well, Amma first started walking out of the hall after serving everyone- the

man was very dissappointed- when suddenly Amma turned, came towards him, took

the ball of rice from his plate, ate it and went out without uttering a single

word. The man was tunned and thrilled and ecstatic.

Then there is the other famous story of Nayanar swami and Amma .... you know

the story ?

And then do you know the other story of what happened when Amma visited the

Meenakshi temple in Madurai?

wow... thats a great story ...

well... i am running out of time now- shall tell you these stories tomorrow..

( unless of course manoj or yogaman can supply these stories themselves... )

oh by the way do you know the story of the devotee who pledged to give a nose

ring to Devi in the Mookambika temple in india..

she forgot about it-

then after many months she met Amma .. and Amma told her " Daughter you owe me a

nose ring! "..

thats a great story too ...

there are so many incidents like these ..

Hi Bala:

You had another story you once told me about Amma appearing as Kali

to another lady devoteee (peeping at the end of Devi Bhava). Do you

mind sharing it? I don't think my words can do justice to the story

as would yours. :).

Everybody gather 'round as Uncle Bala tells us the most fascinating

and heart-warming bedtime stories in this or any other world!

:)

Two more days of work for this child before she is off to Chicago to

see her Amma!

I need this time with our Ma so much right now. Amma is Kali indeed,

putting me through trials and tribulations but all for my own good.

Teaching me lessons about ego and love, and continually helping me to

slay the deamons of my mind.

I keep praying to Amma that She stay with me and guide me through my

life. I know that she is. I know that she never leaves us. It's just

that sometimes, I feel like a bird that was thrown out of the nest

before she was ready and she has no choice but to FLY or snack her

head on the ground and every branch on every tree alllll the way down.

Perhaps one of those branches will smack some sense into me! :)

With love,

Erica

Hi Bala,

you rate manoj too highly;. :). My memory is like a RAM (scratch-pad

for the non-geeks). I hear stories for being connected to the

Divine, I can't remember them (atleast not in the required level of

detail) to regale others.

I don't know how Yogaman feels, but I defintely don't mind waiting

for you to come back and enthrall us with your stories. :).

Dear Bala,

thanks very much for typing those stories down in ur limited time.

from the day group members have been posting mails on Kali darshan stories, i've

been attempting to type down my experiences of Amma's Kali form.

few years back, at Amritapuri, one of Amma's seniors desciples (who have had the

darshan of the Kali form) told me abt some practices related to Kali that i seem

to have performed in my previous births. he told me that Amma is Kali Herself (i

still remember him repeating this statement 3 times). i responded saying that,

"Swamiji, u know it, but i dont have any idea who She really is, other than that

She is my Mother". from that day on, i was pulled into a whirlwind of

experiences...all related to Her Kali form. everytime i attempt to relate those

darshans to someone, something happens within, that makes me loose my identity..

i feel like as if i am no longer there to relate it... so overwhelming is Her

form... it has an impact that u loose urself in Her.

will type a few of those experiences & the various stages of awareness i went

thru during the period. will also try sending u experiences of devotees close to

me, who had Kali darshan (who also happen to be part of Amma's biological

family).

still attempting to put in words, the inexpressible...

Ok, though admittedly I am very bad when it comes to Amma-related

literature in general, I have a faint recall of both stories; of

course Uncle Bala can do corrections, deletions and embellishments

when he comes back :-).

Nayanar Swami

-------------

There was an avadhoota who used to roam around with dogs. This

avadhoota despised the sight of human beings and whenever anyone came

near him, he would pelt them with stones, dirt and drive them away.

When this avadhoota came to Vallickavu, some of Amma's sisyas

informed Amma that a mad man had come to the village. Amma said lets

go see him; butAmma's sisyas told Amma that this guy will not

tolerate any humans around and it is better not to go. Amma said

nothing doing and went to see him. Then something astonishing

happened, this mad man cried when seeing Amma and went to get Amma's

hug. He spent some time with Amma. Later on Amma said that this "mad

man" was a great siddha and only a jeevanmukta would understand

his "mad behaviour". He was Nayanar Swami.

[ it is possible that I may have mixed up some elements of this story

with another story ]

Meenakshi temple incident

-------------------------

Amma was touring South India with her contingent of devotees. They

visited the famed Meenakshi temple (actually this temple is a Siva

temple called Halasyanatha/Sundereshwar, but the Mother has upstaged

the Divine Father:-)). When the evening arathi/pooja was going on

suddenly Amma went into a trance and I think she was shaking or even

dancing slightly. This created a consternation among all the devotees

who instantly understood Amma was indeed divinity. Amma went into

samadhi, at the culmination of the pooja, the priest understood that

Amma herself was a great saint and came to do pooja around Amma

(perhaps you will appreciate this better as priests are normally

forbidden to do this and it would take a leap of faith for a priest

to do this). This was remarkable as Meenakshi at the temple and Amma

were offered pooja at the same time, signfying the one-ness/non-

difference of the two.

I think Amma's father was recounting this story and after this

incident her father promised that never again would he take Amma to

any temple.

Best wishes,

-yogaman
