Guest guest
One of the treats during my pre-Amma trip to Kerala was getting to know Bhadrakali, the somewhat softened version of Kali dearly beloved by everyone, almost, in Kerala. She is relied upon to conquer the bad guys such as anyone who behave in an unjust way toward someone or toward a group of people. Thus she's a social reform sort of Devi. She cures illnesses. She even has a form which is specific for chicken pox and small pox in which Devi has taken the disease on herself and is covered with white spots. That form reminds me of when Amma took on some of Ramakrishnananda's chicken pox. Amma's first appearance as Devi was as Kali in the midst of Krishna Bhava. A devotee came in who had suffered greatly at the hands of those who opposed Amma and suddenly Amma's facial expressin changed to that of anger. It scared people. Later Amma said that she wanted to protect her devotee who was being harassed. It's in the biography by Swami Amritasvarupananda. Especially when returning home in the middle of the night, I'll quietly sing "Chamundayai, Kali Ma," while visualizing Kali walking near me as a protector. Sometimes I've envisioned Kali as my little bronze colored Kali statue, doing defensive moves around me The swami's vision provides an even bigger & fiercer form to visualize as a protector. > > While experiencing a difficult time with someone, mentally I repeatedly chanted "Kali Ma, Kali Ma, Kali Ma" and the troubles resolved beautifully in my favor. After looking to Kali as my protective Mother for quite some time, a vedic astrology reading revealed that Kali is my ishta deva, (form of God I worship.) But, just as with any good mother, Kali Ma can seem very tough on us, when we need it! > > sweta > > > > "E.
