He mentioned that Elizabeth Usha Harding was there as well but not on the dinner line. I would have liked to meet her since I enjoyed her book. The book helped me understand the complex art of Kali worship. I confess I am not much of a ritualist. The Swami seemed very humble and did not mind having to wait on a very long line for food. Brothers and Sisters of this list. Amma is Kali. I am of this belief. Dear GeorgeSon ~ thank you for sharing this wonderful experience. I have heard of the Kali Mandir temple in Laguna Beach and have often wished I could visit there. There is another Mandir in California, the Devi Mandir, which is dedicated to worship of the Goddess in all Her forms. One of the primary scriptures/pujas (for it is both) that is used for this worship is the Chandi Path. I think I have mentioned this before. In the Chandi Path, Kali, Saraswati, Laksmi and other Goddesses are all Goddesses which emerge from the Goddess Durga (Chandi Ma) in order to assist her in slaying the negative thoughts. It is a grand epic as well as a system of worship, but in reading what you wrote I just wanted to share this small passage with the group, the Sanskrit transliteration (sorry, I don't know how to put in the little marks) and the English. It is very beautiful. Also, on one of Krisna Das' CDs, this very passage is part of a kirtan he sings. It is sheer ecstasy to hear it sung. om jayanti mangala kali bhadra-kali kapalini durga ksama siva dhatri svaha avadha namo-stu te Om. She Who Conquers Over All, All-Auspiious, the Remover of Darkenss, the Excellent One Beyond Time, the Bearer of the Skulls of Impure Thought, the Reliever of Difficultues, Loving Forgiveness, Supporter of the Universe, Oblations of I am One with God, Oblations of Ancestral Praise, to You, we bow Is this not beautiful. Does it not describe Amma. Jai Ma ~ Linda
