Dear Dana ~ I know how heartwrenching it is to have to let go of a puppy you have rescued from the pound or animal shelter. Doug and I got the sweetest puppy. She was a wolf-dog hybrid, which was one of the reasons I wanted her. Unfortunately, we discovered as she got bigger, first she was able to jump out of her pen, and then to jump the fence. We could not protect her, and we would not keep her on a chain. Lucky for us, there is a wolf-dog hybrid sanctuary here, and the woman who runs it is a sweetheart. She keeps the hybrids in packs, with all males neutered except one, who gets a vasectomy. Apparently, the vasectomy allows the male to keep his male attributes, and she wants each pack to have one alpha male. Each pack is in its own HUGE pen with so much room to run around, and Dierdre takes them on hikes every day. She is an angel. I'm sorry you are not closer to me because I would take your puppy. Our 4 month old, Cassie, could use a playmate. I wish you the best in finding a good home for your puppy, and many kudos to you for giving it a go. Just a thought, but you might talk to a vet or a dog trainer to see if there's any way to break her of the barking (any good way ~ no muzzles). Our older dog, Pepper, is a barker, because he is so protective. The puppie is not. In fact we had her for several weeks before we heard her make a sound. Guest guest
This doesn't sound like a silly prayer request at all. Collars are sold, which squirt a citrus spray, for each bark. If this inerests you, I'll look into the names of the catalogs that sell them. If you can't break the puppy of barking too much, maybe you could hang up a note on the MA Center's bulletin board, to seek a home for her. It would be wonderful if someone could deliver the puppy to NM. Guest guest
I read a good dog training book recently that teaches bark inhibition. I would recommend it. It's called Before & After Getting Your Puppy: The Positive Approach to Raising a Happy, Healthy & Well-Behaved Dog by Dr. Ian Dunbar.
