The houses are part of the 1,400 houses being constructed by the Math at Alapad for the tsunami victims. Addressing a function in this connection, the Chief Minister said the delay in the construction of houses for the tsunami victims at Alapad was on account of technical problems. He said the issue of constructing houses at locations vulnerable to tsunami onslaught was one of them. He promised that the remaining houses would be constructed as early as possible. Later, at a function at Karunagapally, Mr. Chandy distributed 2,600 cooking gas connections free of charge to the tsunami victims. The connections were sponsored by two private groups, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum. http://www.hindu.com/2005/06/19/stories/2005061906360300.htm
