Dear GeorgeSon and all ~ there is a beautiful scripture, which is also a

puja, called the Chandi Path. It is a narrative "story" similar to the Ramayana,

but it differes in that it spells out the methods and mantrs for worshiping

the Mother in all Her Forms. The main form in this beautiful scripture is

Durga, the Remover of Difficulties. But there is also Kali, She Who Slays the

Ego, Laksmi, She who Bestows the Wealth of True Wisdom, and Saraswati, who

bestows the blessing of True Knowledge.

 

All these goddesses, but primarily Durga and Kali are called upon by the

gods who have been routed and lost their heavenly abode by asuras, which are

defined in this translation as thoughts ~ thoughts such as Too Much and Too

Little, thoughts such as Self Conceit and Self Deprecation. So you can see where

the story is headed ~ to balance. Yet it is a beautiful, moving story,

scripture, method of worship.

 

I have read it 4 times and chanted it once. It is very long, so it took me

two weeks to chant the whole thing. This translation I speak of was done by

Swami Satyananda Saraswati, the "sidekick" of Shree Maa, whom you may have heard

of. On their website, there are even classes about the Chandi, and, if

interested you can buy it. It is well worth reading for anyone, like this one,

who has struggled with ego and with the thoughts described in the text. My

special demons are Self Conceit and Self Deprecation.

Here is a brief, but one of my favorite, passages:

 

"The Mother of Enlightenment pervades the heavens; the Mother of

Enlightenment pervades the atmosphere; the Mother of Enlightenment pervades

Mother and

Father and child. All Gods of the Universe are pervaded by the Mother, the

five forms of all living beings, all Life. The Mother of Enlightenment, She is

to be known.

 

You are Female, you are Male; you are a young boy, you are a young girl. You

are the word of praise by which we are singing; you are all creation

existing as the mouth of the universe.

 

Mother of the Perceivable Universe, Mother of the Conceivable Universe,

Mother of the Universe of Intuitive Vision, lead me to the True Existence..."
