Guest guest
Latest book is called "Sacred Journey" by Swamini Krishnamrita Prana, and in my opinion, is the best Amma book out there. I just finished it last night, and I swear on every single page I was either laughing or crying. Here are a few juicy tidbits... "People used to call Amma to their houses to sing bhajans because She was known to have such a sweet voice and made up Her own devotional songs. In the coastal region where She lived, each house had a book where they wrote down their bhajans. "When Amma went to a house and saw a song that She liked in their book, She would immediately start to sing it. Later, when the people of the house went to open their book, they would find that a page was missing. Amma had torn out the page and taken it. Sometimes She even appropriated whole bhajan books. At home, Her family got upset and asked Her why She did this. They feared that their neighbors might come and fight with them when they discovered that a page or the whole book was missing. Amma never answered them. Only many years later did She explain that it is traditional for householders to make an offering when a mahatma visits their house to offer worship. Amma could not have said anything to the people then, as to them She was just a simple villiage girl. Instead She simply took a page of their bhajan book away with Her out of Her compassion, so the people would not incur any demerit for not offering something to Her." "One year during a retreat in Australia, a girl came up to me with tears flowing down her cheeks. She said, "Swamini, I have to tell you what just happened. Amma is so incredibly wonderful, but how many of us realize it?" She explained that she had been inspired to go up to Amma during the morning program and ask, "Please Amma, what can I do to serve Your children?" AMma was very happy to hear this question, gave the girl an apple and some sacred ash, and told her to give them to a sick woman who had come to the retreat, but was too ill to attend the programs. Amma also asked the girl to tell the lady, "Remember that Amma is always with you." "The girl went to the lady's room and told her what Amma had said. She then applied some sacred ash on the woman's forehead and cut up the apple for her, trying to make her feel as comfortable as possible. The lady remained very quiet throughout. FInally, she told the girl that she would like some time alone. Just as the girl was about to leave the room, the lady called her back. With tears in her eyes she said, "You know, I've been sick for a very long time, and I was so tired of living like this, that this morning I was ready to commit suicide. That was when you came with this prasad from Amma. Now I know that She loves me and is thinking about me, and I feel able to try and go on with my life. I just want to say thank you." I thought this book was so beautiful. I highly recommend it. I'll leave you with one more quote; "My children think I do not remember them, but every night Amma goes to each one of Her children all around the world and kisses them goodnight." -Amma Jai Ma!
