Dear prasadini and Sweta ~ I have been considering taking a "pen" name for my work as an artist and writer. One reason is that I am tired of my last name, Talbott, which comes from my father and has lots of associations I'd rather do without. The other is because I'd like a way to sign my artwork that is simple. I have been very drawn to people who sign their work with a single name. One I have considered is simply Linda Rae. Rae is my middle name, and I would use Rae as my art signature or LRae. The other is Nierika Rae, because I love my screen name. A friend emailed me recently to ask me if my screen name was my spiritual name. It is, but it is one I chose for myself. It is a shamanic name, a Huichol Indian word meaning "portal to other (sacred) realities" and "mirror and face of the diety." I love this because it is a constant reminder that when I look out of my eyes, I am looking into a mirror, and I know that what I am seeing is divine, which thus makes me a part of the divine also. In this case, I would still use Rae or NRae as my signature. Finally, I have also considered Rae Wolfsinger because of my identification with Wolf as one of my Power Animals (shamanic) and as a Communicator. Again, I would sign my work simple as Rae or RaeW. I am working on a new body of work, based on the medicine shield, where each shield is on a southwest background and has an animal on it. It is as though the animal is painted on the shield, but part of the animal becomes three-dimensional and begins to emerge from the shield as though walking into the "real" world. When I have enough new work to fill my gallery space, I will pick one of these names and that will become my art persona. If anyone has any feedback on any of these choices, I'd be interested to hear it. Blessings ~ Linda
Guest guest
I use "Aikya" as my art signature. That was the name I was given as a spiritual name. My father used only his last name with his first two initials made into a design. Keep it simple or you'll be sorry later.
