Guest guest
For those interested, I've started a new called "Bhajan Learning for Westerners" : This group is to discuss and exchange information unique to non- Eastern folk singing or performing bhajans (both "a"'s are short like the "u" in "budget") at local regular Hindu-style prayer meetings. This is not a showcase for songwriters, however messages advertising lessons are permitted. Traditional or at least common accompaniment has been a harmonium and tabla drums, however, westerners are more likely to use acoustic guitar and bongo drums. Topic examples: instrument selection or reviews, how-to video reviews, reviews of online retailers, selection of PA equipment for small rooms, bhajana dharma, making live recordings, audio uploads of rhythms or technical exercises or instruments sounds (no full song uploads to preserve space), seating arrangements, room acoustics, formats/agenda for group practice, etc. Please no guru- bashing, and recognize that different gurus promote different styles or types of bhajans. I've started the discussion with the following posts: BOOK REVIEW: The Harmonium Handbook Autoharps for Bhajans? Pro's and Con's Sruti or surpeti anyone? Tabla machine? Singing Exercise Tape Karaoke Bhajans! and Jamey Abersold Jazz Conch shell for blowing Microphone selection/PA equipment Bass guitars anyone? Guitar Rhythms Bhajana Dharma Recording/drums Cassette cueing/breakage
